My husband and I took my parents visiting from overseas to the BIG KANU tour to see the glow worms on Lake McLaren. We chose this instead of the kayak tour as my parents are retired, Mum is scared in the kayak, plus I am six month pregnant. The big canoe was a great choice, very stable and easy to paddle. Josh and Emil from Waimarino tours were amazing tour guides, very knowledgeable, entertaining and considerate. We loved the experience, watching the glow worms in the canyon from the lake was beautiful and very unique. We all felt safe in the canoe and had great fun. We highly recommended booking it - we just rang the phone number given on the internet and booked it directly with the office even though there was no scheduled Big Kanu tour for that week. They were very flexible and kind.

My partner and I did the hot pools and and glow worm kayak tour in Rotorua earlier this week. Safe to say it was the highlight of our trip! Thank you so much to Ollie for taking us out there, keeping us safe and ensuring we had a good time! The pools were lovely and peaceful and the glow worm cave was spectacular. Kayaking under the stars was also a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend!

We did the evening big Kanu tour at McLaren Falls, and it was great! The guides were super friendly and knowledgeable, and had lots of interesting facts about glow worms. Would definitely recommend if visiting the area. I'd definitely go with this company again, and do the kayaking option.

Loved our evening glow worm kayaking experience. The weather was a bit chilly, but they provided everything to make us comfortable. We had wine and snacks before hand and got to watch the sunset over the lake. The kayaking was very easy and relaxed. A rather short tour, but the glow worm view was absolutely worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone else!

Went on a evening glow worms ? kayaking tour though this company. Josh our guide was outstanding. He knew more than you would ever want to know about glow worms and was very engaging and chatty as well! A+ trip! My only complaint would be the website, I didn’t want to book online, I booked thought the I-Sight because it didn’t look very trustworthy.

The tour was very well organized and our guide, Josh, was strong, professional and fun. It was pouring on the way we headed to the kayaking spot, we were all concerned that our adventure might be spoiled. But when we jumped off the bus, the sky was getting clearer. We enjoyed wine, cheese and crackers before taking off, just like the photos shown on the website. Gears are very clean and professional, we didn't get wet or feel cold during the trip. It was second time kayaking in my life, first time evening kayaking. The kayaks are high ranks and in good condition, I feel it very stable on the lake, and comfortable. We were lucky, the lake was calm, and despite the pouring, we did see many stars and a bright moon, and of cause many shining glow warms. It was really fun, highly recommend!

What a great adventure! Our guides were lovely and knowledgable. The kayaks were dry and we were provided with optional extra dry and warm clothing to put on (I recommend using the fleece and waterproof jacket). We arrived at 430pm and were driven to location about 20 minutes away. We were back at waimarino by 8.15pm We were on the water for about 1.5-2 hours and it was pleasant moonlit night. No wind or rain. 10 out of 10!! :)

The tour is completely worth it. The staff is professional and engaging. The kayaking is easy and relaxing. Even if the glow worms were not the goal it would be worth it to spend rime on the water in this beautiful park. My Family loved the snack of cheese hummus and crackers before we launched and every effort is made to ensure you are safe and have a great time. Whether you are a local or someone just visiting, it is a worthwhile tour to discover something in your own backyard.
