Nice little oasis in the CBD that I wasn't aware of. The history of the area on the sign board was interesting, you can imagine what it would have been like here before development of the town. Visited after a wet night, so the water was a bit muddy, as was the ground leading to the falls, but the sound and feeling of the water flowing was therapeutic.

Cool except someone had scribbled over the info board.

One of the historic locations around Whakatane. This waterfall was important both to the local Maori and early settlers as a water source and energy source to power a local flax and flour mill. There is a handful of parking spaces, including a disabled spot, and a grassy area with a picnic bench which, with it's location off the road, make it a quiet spot to have lunch. A short path from the picnic area will take you to the base of the waterfall, the flow of which will depend largely on how much rain there has been recently - in the case of my photos quite a bit.

Loved it so relaxing if you just want to get away from work for an hour or so. Take a lunch and just enjoy the peace.

Just beside the road. Wairere falls is beautiful waterfall. There is also another Wairere falls in Matamata. I thought this Wairere falls was not exciting but it has her features. It is less than 1 minute walk from the road. When we went there was no one present. The waterfall falls is worth visiting. The town is just near too.

Easy access in town. 1 min walk. High waterfall cascading down over 3 or 4 tiers.
