★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice little oasis in the CBD that I wasn't aware of. The history of the area on the sign board was interesting, you can imagine what it would have been like here before development of the town. Visited after a wet night, so the water was a bit muddy, as was the ground leading to the falls, but the sound and feeling of the water flowing was therapeutic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the historic locations around Whakatane. This waterfall was important both to the local Maori and early settlers as a water source and energy source to power a local flax and flour mill. There is a handful of parking spaces, including a disabled spot, and a grassy area with a picnic bench which, with it's location off the road, make it a quiet spot to have lunch. A short path from the picnic area will take you to the base of the waterfall, the flow of which will depend largely on how much rain there has been recently - in the case of my photos quite a bit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just beside the road. Wairere falls is beautiful waterfall. There is also another Wairere falls in Matamata. I thought this Wairere falls was not exciting but it has her features. It is less than 1 minute walk from the road. When we went there was no one present. The waterfall falls is worth visiting. The town is just near too.
