β β β β β A few friends recommended Waitomo to me. I could save around $10 with their cheaper fuel and the app gave more opportunities for discounts.
I downloaded the app and linked my debit card.
Went to fill up today, set my max transaction limit to $200 and waited for the pump to be released. Nothing happened.
I checked my bank account and $200 had been taken out by Waitomo.
I rang Waitomo who advised that because I was a new user and the transaction was over $180 a temporary block had been put on my Waitomo app. A theft and fraud prevention measure, very noble of them.
They told me I would have to do another transaction and make sure it was less than $180. The $200 already taken from my account is being held temporarily and would be released back to me eventually, timeframe unknown as it depended on the bank.
I went to Caltex instead where I was nicely greeted by a human, they wished me a great weekend and had the option of buying a chocolate bar.
I'm now temporarily $200 poorer because Waitomo was trying to prevent my money from being stolen. That's a bit ironic.
They should either notify new app users of the limit, or they should prevent the app from allowing new users to go beyond the $180 limit for their first transaction.
I told Waitomo I would not be back. So they gifted me $25 credit on my app. They refused me the option of donating it to a friend. An empty gesture.
