About Wellington rafting
The unique thing about the Tararua rivers is that they are flow-dependent. This means there needs to be recent rain to raise the water flow to a safe and enjoyable commercial level. Between April and December, inflatable duckie trips can usually be booked on any day. Between January and April, the rivers are too low to run any trips unless booked directly after heavy rainfall. As a commercial rafting company, we have high cut-off levels for whitewater rafting in our 8-person rafts to ensure the safety of our customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great for families and beginners with longer rafting trips for more experienced kayakers. We found the guides super friendly and helpful. The whole experience was a delight including a grotto like waterfall. I highly recommend getting out there and experiencing it yourself.

They had all the gear we could need, and were super aware of our capabilities, managing the group on the water so well. I only have praises for Wellington Rafting and cant wait to get out there again with them!

Being a Wellington local, and having been through the Hutt Gorge a few times before, I wanted to share the experience with my young son and others. It’s great having the low flow, and high flow boat options. Hamish and his river guides are very professional, organized and thoroughly safety conscious. Wellington really lacks adventure-based activity’s, and you HAVE to put this trip on the top of your list! The Hutt Gorge is one of the most scenic locations in New Zealand guaranteed! Also the perfect corporate team-building exercise. AAA+++

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hamish and Sam facilitated an awesome four hour family adventure down the Te Awa Kairangi /Hutt River Gorge. Located just minutes from the city and yet this beautiful wilderness felt a lifetime away from everything. the scenery and bird life are stunning and the water is so pure and refreshing. Hamish runs a super professional operation, we were well equipped with top flight rafts, wetsuits and thermals for those that wanted them. Hamish's briefing and management during the trip was flawless. The less experienced of us felt totally safe and there was heaps of opportunity for fun, for example the optional rock jumps along the way. Not one of us would have missed this trip and I for one am keen for the next opportunity to enjoy the magical scenery and adventure found in this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was so impressed with the way Hamish ran the group. He really was brilliant. He talked everything through with us before hand and was really enthusiastic and made it so much fun! The lunch was the best too! Soggy rolls and hot chocolate in the rain. Really was a highlight. Totally took care of me too when I belly flopped of the rocks! Can't recommend these guys enough for the awesome experience. Thanks Hamish!

We had a great experience with the Wellington Rafting crew, it’s awesome to have them offering these activities so near the capital (which is otherwise a bit lacking in outdoor adventures like this). Hamish and Jay were really friendly and helpful guides and ensured everyone had fun and kept safe (including some young kids in our group who had the time of their lives!) We’ll definitely take more of their trips in future :D
