About Wellington SCL
Wellington SCL is a modern diagnostic laboratory service offering a full range of community and hospital pathology services to the Wellington and Wairarapa regions. We operate 28 collection centres and 4 testing laboratories throughout the region. Wellington SCL was established on 1 November 2015, and is owned by APHG – New Zealand’s largest network of diagnostic laboratories.

As an medical laboratory we:
- collect and transport specimens
- test, analyse and report on them
- provide expert advice and consultation.
We employ around 400 staff in our laboratories in our collection centres through the greater Wellington and Wairarapa regions.
Everyday about 5000 patient samples get registered in our laboratory and we undertake about 17,000 pathology tests.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not wheelchair friendly- the lift barely fitted my wheelchair and me in my leg got stuck on wall (which doesn’t move) and was drag down it was terrifying!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfriendly, unhelpful and condescending receptionist who, when my partner approached her, cut her off and told her twice to "read the sign". Our first and last time there. Even the car park signs were unfriendly and confusing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nurses here used to b nice and gentle but today my hand nearly burned from hot water in glove she used to warm up my hand as she couldn't find blood vein, when she did she sunk needle near bone each time she moved needle around to draw out more blood I could feel it scraped bone I told her so but alas she said no its not but i insisted was she looked mad i was hoping at time the bloody tubes were fill up faster. Never again I will travel out to Porirua or Wellington city next time even tho im 5mins drive from it or maybe request someone else

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rude and abrupt receptionist. I havent had a blood test for a while so didnt know the procedure. Went to the wrong end of the desk and felt like I was being told off. If people are not well (why else would you be there) there should be a much more friendly person on the front desk. Walked out. Will have to go back another day and hopefully the same person is not on.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Blood centres have to be rated on their service over time. There will always be the occasional flash of temper when people under pressure. I've been through several and this one in Johnsonville has been the most consistently friendly and efficient. Today they were working under severe staff constraints and I thought I would be there for ages. In fact they hoed into the work and cleared the waiting room. I had a small issue with a vein and a senior was called and she sorted it quickly. Very happy with this place.
