Compared to hospitals I've visited in Perth, whakatane hospital is amazing. AMAZING nursing staff in particular. Amazing social worker staff.

The Nurse and Doctor treating me at the Emergency Department were really amazing. I was seen immediately and fixed really quickly. The place was clean and professional and it was a life saving experience for me. Thank you so much to everyone who made this wonderful facility possible.

Was taken to their ER suffering from Wernicke's Encephalopathy. I was shivering violently and had partially lost my ability to speak. Was treated with contempt by an ex-pat doctor loudly exclaiming that I was a homeless person looking for somewhere to sleep. She continued to complain loudly about being woken up for an Et-OH patient. (I know what this means, I worked in a hospital for years and studied biomed). I was later discharged, confused and undiagnosed. I have since made a full recovery, thankfully.

Took my son in as he had slipped and hurt the back of his head, seen straight away, they could deal with then and there, the sercive was so quick I had expected to sit for hours but was in and out within 30 mins, as out of towners going to.the dr takes longer. The sercive was great at a & e, lovely friendly staff

This hospital has amazing staff, all friendly and reassuring and helpful. In fact as I had travelled out of pukehina to come to whakatane hospital as I much prefer it there my partner who was meant to pick me up had fallen asleep sorting the kids after a few hours of calling and trying to get home not knowing anyone in whakatane anyway the lovely security guard Mark offered me a ride home went out of his way and his work hours to help me get home as he could see I was stressed. Lovely to know there are still people like this around I'll be popping back with some treats for the staff as they are absolutely top notch !

The medical staff including nurses are so friendly and professional! My friend was admitted to the ED for acute upper abdominal pain, the ED doctor made a swift decision to transfuse two bags of bloods, otherwise my friend could have died. The ED doctor is really experienced, she is from the USA. But, I am in doubt about some administration departments within the hospital, bureaucracy is always the hindrance for better performance! Monthly Quality Review seems to be really rare.

At about 9oClock my 6yr old son was having trouble getting to sleep, he complained about a sore eye and would cry because it hurt. 12.00am Saturday morning took him in to the Emergency Room. I hate this place. I try avoid coming here but because it's my son. After check in an Triage. Finally got to see a doctor at 2.30 in the morning. She said she couldn't check him while he was sleeping. So I picked him up and made him stand. As she was examining him he was still standing but drifting in and out of consciousness. She turned around said "Right" and stormed out. About 10mins later she came back and checked him and pretty much said she couldn't do anything. And suggested seeing an optometrist in the morning. And to manage the pain with Paracetamol. I asked if he could get some eye drops or something as he's sitting there in pain. She replied in a condescending manner "Is he in pain"..... even though she said manage the pain with Paracetamol. To which I replied, I didn't come here for fun. I didn't wait with him for two and a half hours just to hang out in the Emergency Department. We came because he was in pain and crying. I've called the optometrist and they're booked up till Tuesday.... they said to try the Hospital. Will run him to the Rotorua hospital an hour and a half away. Because it's Saturday and no doctors are open. Was suppose to get my 2nd Covid vaccine Jab today. That ain't happening now. And they wonder why people don't trust them? Here they are saying.. get the vaccine it will help you. But when we actually need help they don't. So why would we trust they have our best interest at heart any other time?
