I might have a higher standard for the local staff of the area. But I was hoping for more of response to the questions of where to hike. Some tourists like the off beaten track, seems hard to find in New Zealand. I think the locals make sure the DOC don't give up the best places to go. Somethimg I understand. I just keep looking.

Between Bex and James, there’s no question that can’t be answered! Their combined extensive knowledge of the region is an invaluable resource.

Very helpful - especially for those seeking the best hikes around town (and some of them are not listed online..!). We got lucky to meet Tracy, who told us all we needed to know and beyond, giving us prons and cons of each hike, enriched with her personal experience. Greatly appreciated and thanks to her we chose the perfect walk for the day!

Been traveling all over the world for 1 year and this is one of the least helpful or friendly visitor centers I've ever been to. It may have been the girl was having a bad day but it was like any question was a burden. We had a total of 3-4 questions about where the track starts and the weather.

The ever helpful DOC office. If you're looking to get out and about around Queenstown or the Southern lakes, without any of the tour company propaganda, this is the place to stop in. Mountain forecasts, lots of independent track and walking information, and information about the National Parks in this, the most stunning part of NZ. A compulsory part of any visit.

The lady who served me was very friendly and helpful. I was walking the Routeburn track the next day and was given all the advice and information to get me off to a good start.
