The campground is close to the Picton farry port and the natural surroundings are beautiful. Nonetheless the lady who manages the campground is unnecessarily unfriendly. We‘d already book the site through the DOC homepage and I showed her the confirmation (pictures attached) but she insisted there is no booking confirmation on HER list and made us pay twice. I’m not complaining about the money but about the behaviour, she treated us like pirate campers and was very rude 7 a.m. in the morning. That’s not the best first impression when you are entering the South Island of NZ for the first time and not the way to treat people at all.

Great quiet place right on the waters edge, safe for children to swim and kayak. Pacific mussels are bigger than your hand and cockles are delicious.

Quiet with a lot of space. Great view of the ocean and can watch the ferries go passed multiple times a day. Relaxing place. Cost is $8 a night but totally worth it. They have just upgraded the sewage system and the picnic tables are nice to sit at for a break.

Nice views of the close bay area. And a creek close by too Prone to being windy, but a few sheltered spots. Flushable toilets. Overall not bad

Best DOC close to ferry!.. camp toilet and plenty of places available. River spots, bay side spots of even tucked away between bushes. It has it all. Nice drive past Picton, the marina area to the camp easy 12 minutes drive. Camp is close to the road, but a very quiet road. Had a good start viewing night. ... Great spot for traveling on a budget.
