It's a bit of a drive getting here, some winding and gravel roads with not much room, so be careful going around those corners! We started with the Omanawanui track then looped back on the Kura track. Quite a steep hike for the first half of the Omanawanui track, a decent level of fitness is required! Kura track is quite mellow. You'll definitely get some good views when you reach the top!

Don’t miss out this walk, nice science spot an hour drive from Auckland CBD, gravel road for last 7 km. Nice camp ground with beautiful views around.

Track is gravelled and has stairs. Overgrown in some places, but generally good. Parking at the bottom is limited on busy days

Great walk with amazing scenery. I walked have and took lots of photos. Run the way back. Lots of stairs but still fairly easy walk. With all the stops I spend about 2 hours there.

If you have not done this walk, then you have seen all this province has to offer. These ranges are jewel of this isthmus in equal measure to the sparkling waters of the waitamata.

Nice walk with new elevated board track, a great way to protect Kauri from dieback.

The Omanawanui track is most definitely the best walk I have probably ever done. You start from either Whatipu or the Donald Mclean carpark which is at the opposite end of the track. You will need a good level of stamina and endurance though as this is not an easy one! However, if you do decide to go you will be treated to what I would consider to be some of the best views you will ever see. I am talking about the Manukau Harbour, the nearby Tasman Sea, and the Manukau Lighthouse on the opposite side of the harbour. I can't really put it into words, you must do this walk! Even if you can't do all of it, make sure you cover enough to see some outstanding views.

Spectacular views! - gravel road has no potholes, so very doable with a normal family car - entry to walkway is a bit hidden... so walk across the first small bridge and keep left, then over the second small bridge keep left again. Signs to the track start here. - it's about a 160 meter climb uphill within a kilometer. The climb is worth the view and has a little bench to rest and absorb the view. You could walk further but the first climb and viewpoint is the best in my opinion. Suggest you go early to avoid harsh sun, and flies... since I found that there were more flies around when the sun came through (and they were not there early morning).
