โ โ โ โ โ Great place for my first time hiking. Took my boy with me as well. Both of us love it. The only shame is the track to the water fall was closed due to protection to kauri. Understandable though.

โ โ โ โ โ Karamatura Falls is my favourite waterfall in Auckland. It is not large, and in fact quite small but that's what makes it so great. It is also far less crowded compared with places like Kitekite or Karekare Falls.
You start at the Karamatura Carpark and follow the loop track for approximately 30 minutes before continuing along the Karamatura Track for a further 15. That is when you will reach the falls, and while the loop track is simple, the Karamatura Track has a couple of steep steps. The falls itself are fantastic and good for a summerโs day out.
If you are up for a real challenge, continue further along the Karamatura Track where you will encounter a massive upward staircase that seems to go on forever. After you reach the top, you will eventually reach Karamatura Forks which is where you change over to the Donald Mclean track. Follow this and you will soon reach the Donald Mclean carpark where there is a lookout point nearby.

โ โ โ โ โ Easy short loop. Small waterfall and swimming hole about 45 minutes up the track. Pathway graded now to a smooth gravel track.
Climb the stairs up to the fork if you want a harder challenge. Or run it, if you're keen.

โ โ โ โ โ A moderately easy walk to a small waterfall that is also suitable for swimming.
The drive to the beginning of the track is along a narrow and winding road so caution is needed. Many of the drivers along this area are confident and will quickly grow impatient of slow drivers. Pull over and allow others to pass you on the road if you notice someone traveling close behind you.
The track is sealed and well formed after being recently upgraded to help protect the Kauri trees from dieback disease.
The waterfall at the end of the track is a must if you have made the journey to do the walk, there is a suitable area for swimming at the base of the falls - though getting to the pool can be a little tricky. Take your time.
This can be a popular track especially during the summertime and the carpark can reach capacity quickly, so you may need to park on the side of the main road.
