★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were privileged to see these wonderful birds at the perfect time of the year (early December) with so many birds nesting and chicks ranging in age from a few days old to almost ready to fledge.
The tour was a very special experience with a knowledgeable and passionate guide and plenty of time to study these birds close up.
Highly recommended. Bring a good camera and a decent zoom lens. I only had my iPhone and captured this shot, but can only imagine what was on offer with a decent zoom.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an amazing adventure. Getting there via boat was exciting, walking in was easy with high quality walkways. The ambience of the bush was really a spiritual experience. Oh... and the nesting birds were spectacular. Well worthwhile cost.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went right at the end of the breeding season and Dion was very honest with us that we wouldn't see as many Kotuku as during the season. But we still had a great trip. Dion is extremely knowledgeable and we saw enough herons and Royal Spoonbills to captivate us. The predator control they undertake and the care for the herons habitat is very impressive.. .Highly recommend the White Heron Sanctuary.
