★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We absolutely loved our night at Woodhouse Mountain Lodge and keen to return!
Both of us said how much we wished we had booked in for dinner, after checking in and enjoying the room, we really couldn’t be bothered driving back to Matakana for our dinner reservation and wished we were just coming down to the lovely restaurant.
We slept so well; loved the peace & tranquillity of the property, and it was a great touch to finish our stay with a beautifully cooked breakfast in the morning.
Next time will definitely be dinner on-site; and time spent enjoying the bar, library, and jacuzzi! I’ve already recommended it to a few friends, and will definitely keep it in mind for future small work events too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Woodhouse Mountain Lodge’s reply to my previous review is rubbish - I did not receive a $350 refund at all. This is what they told me I would receive knowing full well it is not what they intended to provide me with.
Having to move rooms was an inconvenience, yes, but we understood and appreciated that the manager tried to do what he could.
This does not take away from the fact that the rooms were uncomfortable, dated, and not worth the money.
And to repeat, the food was terrible. Horrible. More than just the chef having a bad day. The fish was rock hard, and came off in chunks. The vegetarian meal was just 1/4 of a cauliflower and some stale kale.
The whole experience was very bad, and Woodhouse did not care to help rectify the situation at all, they only made false attempts.
The situation after the fact has been very disappointing. I will not be back, but I will continue to let people know to never waste their money at this place.
I also booked via booking.com and they also did not help to rectify this issue after Woodhouse refuses to take responsibility for their failures.
Again, please please do not stay here. Convinced that the previous reviews are not genuine, there’s no way this place could be raved about.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely staff, location and rooms for a relaxing break. However it was lacking in the luxury department, particularly for the price.
The rooms are lovely, spacious with a good spa bath. They were pretty clean although we had some long black hairs in our bathroom and dust on the nightstand. The path lights didn't work so wandering to our room at night was an adventure.
The food was nice but particularly not memorable. The tables only have tasteless pepper dust though the staff managed to find some cracked pepper eventually. The wine list is poor, with only 5 reds, 4 of which were second tier central otago pinots. They seemed to be understaffed as it took ages to find staff for the bar or help at dinner, empty tables took ages to clear. The breakfast was nice but the bread was from a supermarket, the tea selection was a random mix with no English breakfast, and charging for coffee and juice is a bit in the nose.
Sounds nitpicking but for $700 a night with food it fell well short of expectations and equivalent lodges.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful, peaceful location for a relaxing break. The lodges are well spaced for a private setting in the rolling hills. Comfortable and clean rooms and shared areas so you can fully relax.
For me this was a stretch of my budget as a treat, calling that out as it changes the expectations you set on a place. There were a couple of things that stopped this being 5* for me, nothing major but again around expectation setting on value: Bar space didn't really have any vibe to be a welcoming space to relax, felt a little like the staff couldn't cover all areas of the space well. No furniture around the pool to relax on, to read our book by the pool was lovely but we had to just perch on the deck, no outdoor chairs or loungers available. Dinner was absolutely delicious, but breakfast wasn't the same reflection, didn't quite hit the mark and found it strange to pay $6.50 for a long black with a breakfast included booking!
It is a wonderful place to relax with staff super friendly and willing to do what they could, just felt a few small details would have set it off to 5*.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Woodhouse Mountain Lodge amenities and surroundings were just right for unwinding from the busy urban lifestyle. Walks on the mountain top with lawns on either side, surrounding mountains and peacocks and bunnies moving around in flocks was beautiful and the sounds made by peacocks were like music.
Joshua and team were caring for our comforts and the food was healthy and tasty; excellent customer service! The tennis court, the open pool, the spa, the sauna, the library and so on made our days highly stimulating for mind and body. We felt our stay was too short and would like to go there again.

The staff were attentive and helpful.
The food, wow, their talented young chef is a standout, I had the pleasure to talk to him after dinner last night and couldn't complement him enough on his efforts, the vegan dish he made for my wife was outstanding.
The decor is impressive and fits the setting perfectly. Our room was amazing, I honestly will run out of superlatives trying to speak highly enough of our experience here.
This is hands down one of the best complete hospitality experiences we've had in New Zealand.
If you're reading this review trying to figure out whether to stay here or not - do yourself a favour and lock it in, you will not be disappointed.
To the staff and management. Well done, you couldn't have impressed us more if you'd tried. If I could give you more stars I would.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely loved our stay at Woodhouse Lodge. From the moment we arrived we started to feel relaxed and welcomed - with the manager being especially attentive and helpful. Our room was fabulous with its romantic fireplace, two person shower and spa bath making this a very memorable stay. We loved our two dinners, with the food being some of the best we’ve had at a hotel - cooked to perfection and plenty on the plate. Equally the breakfasts were wonderfully cooked and a perfect start to the day. We’ll done to the whole team at Woodhouse, you were exceptional from start to finish. Now we just need to find and excuse to stay again some time!!!
