Yoshi Sushi & Bento (Press Hall) - Wellington Central
Yoshi | Sushi & Bento
Yoshi Sushi & Bento was born in August 2010 by Japanese and Kiwi husband and wife duo, Yoshi and Helen Kono. Helen & Yoshi met in Japan and when they moved to NZ they brought with them the dream of opening their own shop, bringing Japanese flavours to New Zealand. With Yoshi’s passion for cooking and Helen’s passion towards customer service, Yoshi Sushi & Bento was born. They also wanted to add a few personal meanings to their shops and so working with designers they have incorporated their Japanese family crest into the shop’s design and the first shop was opened 7 years to the day that Helen & Yoshi first met.

โ โ โ โ โ Lovely sushi and food ... but the service was terrible. I've been before and took a visiting friend for lunch because we wanted something fast and tasty. They only have takeaway cups for Miso so I asked if they had a mug that I could use (having asked this before with no issue). I was given a lecture about how it takes so much time to go out the back and get a bowl and that they'd need to charge me extra (a large size). In the time that the woman who I can only assume was the maรฎtre d' or manager been telling me off, she could have gone and grabbed 2 or 3 bowls.
After all this, the portion size of the miso was no where near the large I'd been charged for; it was hardly even a medium takeaway cup worth.
I was so embarrassed and my friend was horrified.
It's such a shame because the food is great but the customer service was shocking (the young woman who'd started serving me was doing a great job until the other woman had stepped in).
We had to wonder, how hard is it to have a wee stash of dine-in mugs or bowls under the counter to avoid this kind of interaction? Particularly now days when many people are actively avoiding takeaway cups and excess packaging.
I really hope they review their processes and avoid embarrassing customers in the future.

โ โ โ โ โ Great early dinner at Yoshi @ Press Hall before the Orchestra. 5:30 Friday an ideal time to get in tasty high quality food. We had the poke bowls special, the teriyaki salmon and the tofu, both on a bed of rice, with edamame and salad. Shared the karate chicken. Everything fresh, delicious that leave you with no regrets. Thank you Yoshi, well be back!

โ โ โ โ โ Good quality. Amazing noodles. Good broth.
Tiny bites of pork. Not really "ramen style" egg, also overcooked.
A bit to high price for overall experience.

โ โ โ โ โ I always go here for lunch when I have day off or on Thursday/ Friday evening after work for their $20 dinner + drink deal. Simply the best Japanese restaurant in Wellington.
