About Youth Horizons
At Youth Horizons | Kia PuΔwai, our mission is to provide evidence-based and bi-culturally focused programmes that create better futures for rangatahi who are impacted by conduct problems.
We are a national charitable trust working to improve the lives of children and young people who are dealing with behavioural, emotional, mental health or development issues. We have over 250 staff and caregivers supporting young people and their families and whΔnau across the North and lower South Islands.
Our story
Youth Horizons | Kia PuΔwai began in 1997 when two child and adolescent psychiatrists, Dr Peter McGeorge and Professor John Werry, along with educational psychologist Tom Guild, were invited by the then Department of Social Welfare (now Oranga Tamariki) to design a treatment programme for young people diagnosed with Severe Conduct Disorder.
Today, we deliver proven programmes that meet the needs of young people from different backgrounds and focus on therapy in the home, parenting support, bringing families back together, and foster care and group home placements.
