Our daughter, Jessie had the best time. She said it was the best trek she has ever done.

A gorgeous little spot to ride a horse! our friendly guide gave us good instructions before we left and being out on a massive beach on a horse was a favorite memory of our time in the area.

We had a brilliant ride with Lenna who was friendly and helpful! We loved meeting Jim, Snow and Jed who were all extremely well behaved and well looked after. Riding on the beach at Marahau as the tide goes out is amazing. Would recommend to anyone hoping to ride in the Abel Tasman! Definitely an experience we won't forget - thank you!

This is a great experience for all levels of ability. Small groups with pre ride orientation so everyone feels confident. Being able to ride along the beach is so lovely and the horses are well looked after and although they will walk along gently they obviously are well schooled and a good forward going ride for the more experienced. Highly recommended.

Great experience horseback riding at the beach in Marahau Abel Tasman. We almost had the beach to ourselves and we were only four people in the group with the instructor. I highly recommend this small family owned business if you enjoy horseback riding. The horses were very well trained and the instructor was very friendly and made it a safe and fun experience:)

I couldn't recommend this ride to any experienced riders, in two hours we didn't come out of a walk due to beginner riders on the ride in the same group. It was incredibly frustrating and disappointing to find yourself on a wide expanse of sand and plodding along, not even getting to trot, let alone canter or gallop. I raised my concerns with Lenna and she said she couldn't allow us to go faster given inexperienced riders were with us. I've ridden on holiday in a number of places and the rides are always split into different abilities to allow more experienced riders to enjoy themselves. Spending $115 per person and just having a walk isn't acceptable. Lenna herself is lovely and she is very conscious to keep the group safe and I'm sure if you've not got any riding experience, this would be great as it's very scenic. The horses are well trained and the equipment is excellent but it's very dull if you're used to more than walking on a horse.

Over the past week I have been able to enjoy a couple of horse treks done by Abel Tasman Horse Trekking. The horse treks are done properly right from the outset, how they should be done, with a proper safety briefing/lesson making sure everyone knows what they are to do. Their gear is excellent and the staff and horses are fantastic. Anybody looking for a cruisey walk along the beach on horseback should definitely check these guys out!! I highly recommend them!! Many thanks ATHT, you will be seeing me again!!

I agree with one of the previous reviews, if you have ridden before and want more than a very slow walk, I would book somewhere else. This horse trek is suitable for complete beginners. My group consisted of only me and another rider + 2 guides. Our 2h ride (as stated in the brochure) was more like 1,5h on the horse back, and the ride on the beach was more of a slow walk to the beach and back. We didn't even reach the edge of the water (due to low tide and soft sand). Very underwhelming experience. The guides were nice but not very talkative. Me and the other customer felt the same way about that, as usually when doing activities the guides are very engaging, especially in such a small group. Positives are: The horses were nice and we did get some good photos down at the beach! EDIT (answer): As I wrote in my review, I only booked after looking at the printed brochure. In this it does not say anything about a safety briefing, but rather "2h ride on the beach, including a lesson". A "lesson" for me is on the horse back, not how to hold the reigns on the ground. It also doesn't say anything of only walking during the trek, this is something you should add to avoid more disappointed customers. Or at least say in person before the trek. It is silly to have a 25 minute safety briefing for a group of 2 where both riders has ridden before, if the trek is just going to be a sleepy walk.
