★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When I moved to Christchurch, I was super excited to see a curly hairdresser with such good reviews. I waited 6 weeks to get an appointment on a Saturday. The day prior to my appointment I received a text asking to reschedule (no reason given) which was fine as things happen. The earliest I could be seen was the following Saturday, so I changed my plans to head out of town and booked in. I turned up to my appointment on the Saturday to find the hairdresser closed. I rang the main line, no answer, so I rang the phone number that I’d been messaged on previously. Upon explaining that I was at the shop, I was advised “sorry we are closed on Saturdays” and then I explained that I’d been rebooked from the Saturday prior, to which I got a “oh, my fault”. By the time I got home, I received a text message saying “so sorry. I don’t know what happened there, can I offer you a complimentary cut?”. Whilst still a little frustrated, I was happy with that as a response, so I asked when the next appointment was. 6 days later, I have had no response. Overall, disappointing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Curlies: run away. It’s been over a moth since my cut, and I still hate it. I feel others need to know what they are getting. It's going to take 1 to 2 years to fix this haircut. I was so excited to find someone who does curly hair and dry cuts. Dry cutting is super important because I have 2 different curl patterns. I specifically pointed out that my crown had tighter curls. I specifically said I needed to avoid a shelf/mushroom or Christmas tree cut. And I specifically said I need to be able to tie it back.
I could not tie it back. Only if I pulled it very tightly can I get a stump of a pony tail. No chance of a clip or claw working. There is no way to put it up without completely stretching out my curl. She kept stretching out my curls while cutting, and my cut did look good immediately afterwards. But as the day progressed and my curl bounced back to its natural shape, I found I have a shelf and my crown is VERY short. The whole point of a dry cut is so that you don't overcut the natural curl pattern. But she overcut my natural pattern. Prior to this cut, my crown was shoulder length or lower. Now I look like a mushroom. With wet styling again, I somehow ended up with fringe as it's shrunk back even more. My crown is now above my eyebrows. And because there is no length to weigh it down, it keeps bouncing back to a middle part and it makes look horrendous. I essentially have two haircuts... mid length lower down and some short cap on top. I said I was ok to go shorter as long as I could clip it back/tie it up and that there was no shelf. The cut is really uneven, and she didn’t really follow the curl clumps. I have clumps that have been cut to different lengths. It’s just dishevelled and ratty.
Her only comments were she could teach me how to style it and that she liked it. She took none of my comments on board and dismissed all of my concerns. I have not be given any kind of refund. Since reaching out to other curlies in chch, I’ve found they have had similar experiences and vowed to never go back.
