Aries Restaurant - Te Aro
Aries Restaurant - Ariesrestaurant.co.nz
At Aries Restaurant we offer a wide variety of Chinese cuisine beginning with Yum Cha. Yum Cha means to “drink tea” in Cantonese. Yum Cha is traditional Cantonese brunch involving a wide variety of Chinese tea and Dim sum. At Aries our chefs put time and effort into making our handmade Dim sum. The Yum Cha items are usually in small proportions of steamed, pan fried and deep-fried dishes. Aries brings bold and traditional flavours for everyone to enjoy. Dinner at Aries allows you to taste flavours from all over China.

β β β β β Dinner here last night with our table of 12 friends. The blue cod fish and the soya sauce chicken dish was yummy. So was the eggplant ? and the crunchy green bean beans dish. ? ?
However the crispy roast pork, the prawns and the wongbok cabbage dish all left a lot to be desired! ?

β β β β β Yum Cha was excellent. The "Har Gao" (prawn dumpling) was absolutely outstanding, although the Xiao Loong Bao (which is a steamed cross between a pork dumpling and a pork bun) was disappointing. 12 out of 14 items we ate was good or excellent, with reasonable portion sizes and pricing, around $6.50-7.20 for most items. Service was pretty good, they were slightly overstaffed when we were there. One of the tidiest restaurant toilets in town! The only thing going against them is the obscure location and lack of street visibility. This restaurant was previously the Happiness Restaurant, but its had a name change, and slight change of ownership mix, we've heard. We're glad it's resurrected and is worthy of 5 stars and a recommendation to try.
Update following a second visit the week after. Busier this time but service still pretty good. Twice now we've asked for something and for a second week running they've delivered without needing a reminder - very impressed. Sounds basic but busy restaurant staff often don't. Har Gao not as good as previous week, the prawn flesh not outstanding but perfectly fine. The food is still generally of very good quality. My only gripe is some male customers must have tried long distance delivery in the loo; guys, it doesn't work, please don't, it's not nice for other customers and not fair to the cleaning staff.

β β β β β Love their Yum Cha! Finally get a chance to have a try and it did not disappoint me! The food was really fresh and the service was bringing you home :) All the dishes were yummy and definitely without too much "unexpected" seadoning. Besides the traditional Yum Cha we also tried BBQ lamb (small and cute and delicious). Price was reasonable and the place was extremely clean and bright. Will come again!

β β β β β Group birthday on a Tuesday evening. Lovely atmosphere, great friendly and helpful service, and exceptional food. I'm not a big Chinese food eater, but from all the Chinese restaurants I've eaten in, this has to be the best by far. Highly recommended. Oh, and we'll priced too. Thanks Aries!

Accomodating staff. explained dishes thoroughly. was going to order steamed chicken, but was told it's a cold dish... opted to get the sizzling beef instead. beef, succulent.mains can be shared by 2. spareribs was ok. yangchow was yum! we were also given apples and oranges after the meal.a little bit pricey but overall very good.
