About Sal's Authentic NY Pizza - Cuba St
Sal’s Story
1941: Salvatore Leo is born in a little town call Corato in the Puglia region of Southern Italy.
1951: Only 10 years old, Sal immigrates to New York City.
1959: Under the watchful eye of his family, Sal begins mastering the art of making authentic New York pizza by hand by strictly adhering to his family’s well-guarded pizza making techniques and secret recipes.
1975: ‘Sal’s Pizza of Little Neck’ opens and Sal’s legend starts to spread, becoming renowned for some of the finest and freshest pizza throughout the city.
2008: After a number of ‘recovery’ pizzas following a celebratory NYC New Years, the idea of bringing Authentic NY pizza to NZ was born.
Late 2008: Following successful blind taste tests using NZ water on some of Sal’s longest customers in NYC, we prove that NZ WATER WORKS to make Authentic New York Pizza.
2009: ‘Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza’ opens our first store in Auckland, and Brian Leo -’Son o’ Sal and pizza making prodigy’ decides to join us.
Many years later, Brian continues to train and mentor our pizza makers ensuring his family legacy lives on in every slice we serve.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good value for money, pizzas a little bit greasy but thats both a good and bad thing. Still beats garbage pizza hutt or dominos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is as close to NY style pizza as you’re going to get in New Zealand and the wings were wonderful! Definitely coming back here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My daughter and I love going in for a couple slices and mozzarella sticks. I would say it's the best "fast" pizza around (as opposed to wood fired oven artisinal pizzas). Would always recommend, especially takeaway for parties.
Tip; for takeaways you can ask them to "double cut" the pizza so you get smaller slices.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very authentic NY style pizza, a little wait but the taste was rich and portions huge. Atmosphere is relaxed and ample seating for families or on your own.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went in to Sals with a hungry team of dancers after a big competition. Was a bit tricky getting ourselves seated after calling ahead to make sure they could accommodate our big group, but managed to snag some tables.
The wings were a big hit with the adults and the mozzarella sticks were the fave of the kids. The pizzas are huge. The chicken pizza was delicious, I didn't taste the pepperoni but most said it was a bit oily.
The consensus was the wings will be worth braving the busy street it is on in Christchurch to get them again when we go home.
Thanks for letting our squealy kids wind down and enjoy some time together.
