We’ve just picked up our dog from a two night stay at Auntie Briars. And we’ve been ended up being abused by the woman there for being a couple hours late to pick him up after we were held up at a funeral in Taupo that day. She told us never to come back and never let us explain ourselves. We are the customer and we apologized for being late, the suns still up for god sake! We recommend you never use such an unprofessional and disrespectful service like this for your dog grooming and day care needs! We are happy never to go back to a place like this. We later learned our dog contracted kennel cough from this place, after he went down ill and started making an awful honking cough sound a few days after we picked him up from here. Auntie Briars is just generally a horrid and unprofessional place to send your dogs, we recommend to NOT use this service!

I have taken all my dogs to Aunty Briar for over 20 years, Briar genuinely cares about your dogs and their welfare and goes the extra mile. At the end of 2019 I left my neurotic griffon cross with her for a month while I travelled overseas, Briar constantly updated me and sent photos to reassure me she was having a good time. The negative reviews here do not in anyway reflect the fantastic service I have received from Briar. Her new grooming room and facilities are also top notch.

My husband and I had a shockingly rude experience at Aunt Briar's this morning. We took our grey-hound in for a dental clean. My husband had gone in prior, to chat to the business owners to check if they were familiar with this breed. Note - He is a retired racer who is very shy and we have spent months working with him to build up his confidence and reduce his reactivity to other dogs, especially smaller dogs. There were smaller dogs in the grooming shed that were running around unleashed - we didn't know if these dogs belonged to the owners themselves, so we chose not to comment. In any case, we are familiar with signs of distress or anxiety from our own dog, which he exhibited once he was placed on the grooming table. I went in to quietly reassure him by stroking his coat and was aggressively told to not do that - to not touch my animal as it would re-enforce his behavior. As I have said - this is a retired racing dog who can be a bit anxious and as his owner, I have learnt how to reassure him when I notice he is stressed. He is a very calm animal by nature but this was a new experience with absolute strangers and new sights and sounds. I was repeatedly told not to touch him and to leave the room. Not once but twice and in a very rude manner. Whoever this woman was - either an employee of the business or Aunt Briar herself , we do not know as introductions were never made - she was incredibly unprofessional and patronizing. I signalled to my husband that I was un-happy and moments later, this woman told us we should leave all together. So we did. As we were leaving she also said ' Good luck - this is going to cost you $1500 in dental bills' - again incredibly rude and patronizing and showing a total lack of respect. At no point did either my husband or myself raise our voices or counter this woman's point of view, so great was our shock at being spoken to in such a way. To be clear - we did not appreciate being spoken to that in that manner. It was rude and condescending and might we add, woefully ignorant of any past experiences our dog has undergone. We did not appreciate the insinuation that we could take ourselves elsewhere and pay thousands of dollars, simply because we were not prepared to put up with a total stranger telling us how to treat our dog. Greyhounds are naturally gentle and calm creatures, but this was our very first visit to Aunt Briars - none of the groomers were familiar with us or our dog. If anything even slightly un-toward had happened, brought about by our dog's stress - we am sure we would have been blamed and our dog held responsible. We have since found another groomer who took 10 mins to enquire after our dog, his nature, what his personality is like and to accommodate his anxiousness around smaller dogs. We were recommended Aunt Briar's by a friend and might I add, she was horrified to hear of our experience. We will never return.

I would not recommend taking your dog here for grooming. They grazed/cut our dog in a couple of places and didnt do what we asked. They were also very rude when challenged about this and tried to blame her behaviour when other groomers have said how good she usually is.

Murph gets so excited, wagging his tail furiously as soon as we turn into the driveway. Greeted with a warm smile from Briar & Alex, I know he’s in good hands for the day. With my odd working hours I so appreciate how flexible and accommodating Briar and Alex are, thank you so much for all that you do ladies!! We love you! Anah & Murph ❀️?

Not very professional or that caring about dogs, I would be careful in trusting. I took my puppy here for an hour session to see if she would suit being at daycare. I didn’t get a tour or anything of the place or get asked any questions at all. When I went to collect her there they told me she didn’t suit being at daycare as was too overwhelmed, asking me if I had socialised by puppy. But I feel they could have done more by gradually introducing her to a few dogs and monitoring her. I feel they didn’t have patience to understand her personality which is shy but social. Instead they just put her in the crate, where she was trembling and didn’t bother to call or text me to let me know ( I was out in the road waiting). When taking her out of the crate they also stood on her or hurt her somehow, which shows how careful they are about their dogs.. she also gave me some strange advise to take my timid puppy to the dog park to socialise her, dog parks are full of untrained, not well behaved dogs? I’m not sure that these people really know what they are talking about.

The lovely staff here took care of my puppy for a few hours while he got his nails done and a trim around his face. They did an amazing job and have great dog treats for sale they make themselves. Will definitely be coming back or dropping our pup off for a play date/daycare.
