Pukeiti Gardens
The Taranaki Regional Council's three premier heritage properties, Tūpare, Pukeiti and Hollard Gardens, are open all day every day and entry is free. Pukeiti hosts one of the world’s biggest and most diverse collections of rhododendrons and other exotics, creating an explosion of colour among lush, native rainforest and mountain streams. Tūpare is a premier landscaped garden with a unique homestead, originally developed by Sir Russell Matthews and his family from 1932. Tūpare’s distinctive Chapman-Taylor designed house is a great example of the Arts & Crafts style of architecture. Hollard Gardens are informal and intimate, with a huge variety of native and exotic plants collected by Bernie Hollard, many are rare and endangered.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best thing about this place was the amenities. Those blankets in the wardrobe could do with a wash. Can't help the noise with people doing shift work etc. The Devon across the road is best for rest, but this place was ok.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Overall pretty good. The staff were helpful, the room we had was better than expected. Restaurant food was ok. Reasonably close to centre of town if you have a car. Walkable as well although not as handy in that regard.

Reception on arrival requested payment again, even though we had paid for the room prior.
Elevator seems very retro and small, hallways are the same - which I think gives it character.
Once in the rooms there is one light that lights the whole room, could do with seperate service switches for separate light.
Bathroom is very 60s which also we don’t mind.
Coffee and Tea station probably hasn’t been refreshed in a few months as some had hardened.
Cleaners came and refreshed towels, and car park needs fixing, lots of gravel and pot holes.
Overall was a decent experience

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were upgraded to a suite and really appreciated this. The rooms were nice and clean. I would say that some things could be updated like the bathroom. Still had a shower over bath and the floor tiles could do with upgrading.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Always a pleasure staying at the Auto lodge. Staff are always accommodating and great. I'm a frequent stayer for business and must say, of all the places I've stayed in New Plymouth, Auto Lodge is easily within the top 5 for business stay.
Kitchen staff are great, good menu and quick service even during peak times.
Highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great value accommodation in a good location near the beach and many local attractions. Friendly staff. Easy check-in and out. Pet friendly. The room was well appointed and air conditioned. Fan is provided as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An older but adequate resting place. Very clean and comfortable with plenty of room in my unit. Minor issue was sorted immediately. The showers will rip your face off! Caution ⚠️. Awesome staff. Thanks folks. ?. By the way, the shower water pressure was not a complaint, great back massage after a hard days work.
