Automat turns takeaway food on its head and offers you a fresh and tasty experience. You can choose anything from our food menu – from the burgers to the tender steak or the nightly specials – to eat in or take away.
We use fresh local and regional ingredients, we take care to source the best cuts and fillets and we bake all of our bread in house. We believe that this gives our food an edge you can taste.
Automat’s menu displays influences from the USA mingled with NZ favourites, offering a variety of flavours that we’re sure will hit the spot. And forget fried fast food, there are plenty of healthy options to tempt all taste buds.
We open for brunch from 10am in the weekends with a varied and delicious brunch menu. Follow us on Facebook and keep up to date with our evening specials and monthly events.
We aim to cater to varied dietary requirements but if you have a specific request please don’t hesitate to get in touch ahead of your visit. We know all about allergies and intolerances so we are sympathetic and accommodating.
Set in the heart of Khandallah, Automat is located in what used to be the Burma Road service station many years ago, making parking and collecting a breeze.
We happily take bookings.

There was floating remnants of something in the water and food was bland and average.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place never fails. Great food, service, drinks, coffee, parking, public transport- everything!
The menu is fab,. But people come for the daily specials. This is shown in a light board. You can check that out as you drive past,as well as check on how busy ( buzzy) it is.
They do gluten free with no fuss, kids, no problem ( the 25 yo hipster next me ordered children's menu chicken!).
Try it. Think diner/cafe/neighbourhood bistro and you'll get it. Really, have an open mind and enjoy it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Such fun! Great for groups, casual dinners and date nights. Friendly also for people in active wear after climbing up Mt Kaukau also - no judgey eyes (from staff anyway). Fast and friendly service, takes walk ins, very accommodating if you are happy to share long tables. Food comes out quickly and a there is a good selection of Vegetarian options. The brioche bun for the burgers is amazing - the inside is soft and heavenly. Portion sizes are generous and you leave feeling well fed. Parking is available on site and on the street - such a wonderful staple in this lovely neighbourhood.
