It was awesome experience going on track. There is enough parking space available besides bridge. There is toilet facility in parking. There are two ways to go to lighthouse but i took left side as it says it is main track. The track is with moderate difficulty but most effective factor is WIND. If wind is in your favor then it's easy otherwise bit difficult at times. Well marked tracks, awesome views. The water looks cool from top. It is worth walking to the lighthouse for the view. It took altogether 2 hrs walk and half an hour rest on the top.

Very beautiful location, toilet facilities and one can camp but there's no water currently, so you need to carry in enough.

Baring Head Lighthouse was a replacement for the Pencarrow Head Lighthouse when it was de-commissioned in 1935. The Lighthouse itself has a height of only 12.2 metres. But is conveniently located on a clifftop on the main approach to Wellington Harbour effectively giving it a focal height of 87 metres. To get there, take the Coast Road off Wainuiomata and stop at the Signposted "East Harbour Regional Park" Car park with a bridge across the Wainuiomata River. If you have reached the Beach Access Car-park, you have overshot it. From the Car Park cross the bridge, and you can either walk up the vehicular road for most parts or choose to walk along the Main Track. It initially follows the Wainuiomata river. You reach the small white building with Red roof, which used to be the Old Pump-house. Then it slowly climbs up the hill. It is a gentle walk. Well signposted. Till you reach a plateau top. You cannot miss the Lighthouse from here. Plenty of sheep grazing and startled rabbits bolting around. From the Lighthouse, you can choose to do a loop by walking up to the Para Trig and WW2 Lookout Bunkers before walking back down. On a sunny day provides impressive views. As the crow flies, the Baring Head Lighthouse looks very close to the Wellington city, but is a bit of a drive when you drive to Petone and past Wainuiomata to get there.

Beautiful spot and a lot of work going into its restoration. A gentle 3km walk - after a 500 m climb.

Great day trip. Parking is well sign posted. Steep but scenic hike up the farm trails to the lighthouse and historic bunkers even higher up. Respect the farm land. Great views up and down the coast. The beach below is also worth an explore with great climbing rocks and lots of wildlife. Highly recommend.

An amazing place to visit. Amazing views on a good day. I can't wait until the lighthouse keepers buildings are turned into accommodation to rent overnight. Make sure you approach the door of the pump house as it automatically opens into a small but interesting museum and information centre. Well worth the walk.
