★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Honestly, the best bike shop in all of Christchurch. I have been in a jam several times and they always seem to occur when I'm at the park with my mates, 1-2 laps in and something goes wrong with my bike. I've been able to pop into Basic Bikes and more than once they've helped me out on the spot within the hour. Friendly, helpful, great prices and of course ... epic bike knowledge. Thanks for helping me out with the brake hose bolts to keep me riding through the lock down and keep my sanity! Much appreciated. You will be my first port of call next time!

The staff where very knowledgable and got my bike up and running the same day at a fair price. They talked me through the process and couldnt be happier with the service. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Been in here twice asking for small jobs - a chain replacement and a center bolt - both times it seemed all about the upsell, listing the things that "had to be done", and telling me "mate we're booked out 2 weeks in advance" (no diplomacy about it, just arrogance)
Busy is busy I understand, but the approach was WAY wrong both times.
I dont normally leave these reviews but this place just ground my gears. Pun intended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went in to get a quote for taping a set of wheels. I was lead to believe it would be $10 per wheel for a total of $20. This sounded like a good deal but when I went to pay for the completed service I was told it would be $40. The technician wasn't clear about additional labor costs. However, the service was fast and the staff were friendly enough (I don't think it makes up for paying double). If I had understood the full cost I would have just bought a roll of tape and done it myself.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My bike had a puncture and Basic Bikes fixed it for $20 same day. They take care for customers and don't try to sell you more than you want. No techno speak and women should go here because you are not made to feel dumb for not knowing your sprocket from your spanner. Great service and aftercare. Gets my vote ?

I have used this shop for quite a few years, mainly for workshop services, like having a custom wheel built and servicing the suspension on my bike, as well as buying parts for the jobs I do at home.
I'm always very happy with the work and I appreciate the honest and direct feedback that has been given when I've queried things.
Highly recommended.
