Well kept and comfortable with nice amenities like a shared kitchen , a cozy common room and lots of picnic tables to enjoy meals with friends and family.I found Andy to be a warm and friendly host. The place is well located and is walking distance to the wharf and the beach which is a great plus as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked 2 nights when it was an YHA - so well in advance of our trip. We had to pay for the 2 nights in advance.
Andy was very pleasant and was happy for us to amend our booking dates as our plans changed.
Our family room was upstairs (so everything has to be carried up) and it was extremely hot at night (although there was a pedestal fan in the room).
We were the only people staying for the 2 nights (compared to the back packers next door that seemed really busy).
Our bed was comfy but our 18 year daughter's wasn't (she didn't tell me until we left).
The complex is very small and I can't imagine it when busy.
There is a small kitchen with everything you need, (there are plenty of ants!)
There is a small lounge area with no TV.
The whole place looks old and tired. To appeal to the family market I do feel there are certain areas that need improvement. (My family hated that 3 of the 5 towels that were given to us were so hard and old.)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great value private rooms! This lodge fulfilled our every need. Our room was clean and spacious, with comfy comfy beds and a decent hot shower in the ensuite. There’s a full equipped kitchen that even has the little stuff like utensils and chopping boards. The hosts are locals who really know the area and got us some good discounts around town, which is only a five minute walk away (two minutes to the beach). Would definitely recommend to all fellow travellers

Staying at the Bay of Islands Lodge was the highlight of our trip. Andy and Lynn welcomed us like family.
The room was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed with the comfiest bed we have ever slept in.
The kitchen was well equiped and the location was quiet on an evening whilst being close to everything in town.
The lodge is a stone throw from the beach, all local activities and a great bar with live music is just a few doors down.
We can’t wait to return to this place, it’s a must if you are in Paihia!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed at Bay of Islands Lodge for two nights and it could not have been more perfect. The location is amazing. A quick walk to the beach and all the amazing restaurants in Paihia. It was very convenient for us to walk to all the places. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The common kitchen area was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Andy was an amazing host, welcoming and very helpful. We can't wait to revisit.
