Great place to stay. Enjoyed all the walks and swimming by the waterfall.

Have stayed here many times over the years, with the camp sites in little clearings that are spread out on different levels through the bush. very nice place to camp. Has the river next to it to swim in and access to bush walking tracks to the old gold and opal mines on the other with a 15-20min drive to pauanui and tairua beaches. There are no doc shower's or bbq's built at this camp and the bugs in the toilets can be a pain at certain times of the yea

Wanted to make one of the walks on the 25.07.20 but I couldn't cause the bridge broke to where the walk Starts so driving over two water hazards and around 10mins gravel road was for nothing.

This swimming hole is about 500m back from the camp ground with a rock to jump off for the kids (and adults).

Such a wonderful setting with an awesome DOC host Charles. The river is beautiful and the walks magical. A must for the traveling camper

Awesome spot, lots of room but camp sites still feel private. River not too deep so kids can swim safely by campsite, good swimming hole 5 minutes down the road

Fairly big with some nice little spots but definitely overpriced. 15 dollars for not much. I did plenty of doc campsite where it was only 8 dollars and had lot more for it. Felt like the toilets were full and really dirty (and I'm really not picky). Easy to get there and plenty of nice tracks starting over there.

I cannot comment on the campsite itself, but I can on its surroundings. There are manly walking tracks in the area, all through what used to be a gold mine. Access is via a mix of tar sealed and gravel road. In my honest opinion, the batteries ( Broken hills, Golden hills and Government) are not the most exciting. Where I would tell my friends to go is to park by the campsite (across the bridge) and walk the water race tunnels (short 30-minute walk) and/or the Collins drive tunnel (longer 3-hour return walk). When you get to the first bridge in the walk, turn right, down a small track for a bit of waterfall/ stream- it's charming. Either way, the Coromandel forest is lovely, and the river is excellent for swimming or just sitting and enjoying.
