Interesting comment from the reviewer below and if I had read this before booking Chch Movers, I probably would have have steered clear. Our story is that the movers were booked for 9am. When they didn't turn up within the first 20 minutes, my partner called the company (I was at work and had booked the company but had given my partner's details as the contact person). They flat-out lied and said the guys would be here as soon as possible but had to finish a job first. Some time later, he phoned again and the response was that they were lost and didn't know the address. Long story short, they arrived two and a half hours late - at 11.30 instead of 9am. This was when my partner found out (inadvertently - I mean, when you're making stuff up, you should at least let the contractors know the story they're supposed to tell, right??) that the dispatcher had lied about the boys 'being on another job'. In fact, they hadn't even been told they had a 9 am job. Once they finally arrived they were apologetic for the delay and professional in their process but the damage was done. The timetable for the day was completely screwed and meant that we were not able to complete our end-of-tenancy inspection on time. The upshot of all this is that the subbies here in Christchurch seem to know their job and were keen to complete their job correctly but the fault lies with Head Office. Get your damned act together, Wellington. You couldn't even be bothered to let your local boys know that they had to make up a story, meaning that you came out of it stinking like poo. So all in all, we booked this on a special deal and received a very substandard performance. Poor organisation and, as usual, the guys on the ground saved the day.

It's not often I feel strongly enough to post a review of a business however the actions of this company have forced me to submit this review. On 16 October I scheduled 3 men and a truck for a move from Cashmere, Christchurch. After THREE conversations with the office about the difficulty in accessing my driveway and after THREE confirmations that they reviewed the driveway (on Google Maps) and the difficulties, Christchurch Movers confirmed that they would be able to complete my move. The movers arrived at the scheduled time, 9:30 a.m. on the Friday of the Labour Day holiday weekend and, after several failed attempts, were unable to get the truck to make the turn into our driveway. They left to get a different truck. After several phone calls trying to determine their whereabouts, they informed me that they did not have a truck that could make it up the driveway and would need to rent a different truck. They wanted to use my credit card for this rental. After finally renegotiating the charges (and the fact that they, as a business, could rent the truck) they finally arrived back to my house at 2:30 p.m. The problem: THEY RENTED THE SAME SIZED TRUCK. Needless to say, this truck could not make the turn. The movers left again and finally, after several attempts to get them to answer my calls, I was sent a text message at 4:15 p.m., Friday before a long weekend, that they couldn't find a truck, and that they left a message at a rental company and suggested that I follow up with the other rental company. None of my subsequent calls were answered. They have never followed up with me, never sent any sort of apology, and all happily left the office that Friday afternoon to enjoy their holiday weekend while we struggled to find an alternative as we had to be out of the house by Monday. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, uncaring, and disorganized company in my life. They're not even based in Christchurch!!! Someone in Wellington collects your money, checks Google Maps, and hires a third party to do the work. Even though I have not had any charges to my credit card, the lost work time, lost time to move, stress of finding friends and a truck on a holiday weekend at the end of the month, etc. adds up to quite a bit of cost. DO NOT USE CHRISTCHURCH MOVERS.

Sorry to give one star. I had them booked in for the 2nd November and they just canceled on me. They said they had a new team and they were mean't to start Friday but decided they didn't want to work. Now I am stuck with no way to move!!! It is not the fault of the office staff but you should have more that 1 team. Now many people are left with trying to find other movers on short notice.

The movers were a pleasant group of workers. However our TV screen was cracked sometime during the move. You could not see this had happened until the TV was turned on by an IT technician the next day. No one touched the TV after it was placed in our lounge. The sales person who did not respond to my email complaint until I rang the office a second time has refused to take any responsibility for the damage and had not rung to discuss the issue as I requested after his email. I was told this company has a policy of not compensating for damaged goods after the fact. It seems we will have to take legal action.

The fact that the moving company canceled our booking the day before speaks of their level of professionalism. We needed to move to our new home,our lease was about to finish in 2 days, leaving people hanging without any other options is just not acceptable.

Definitely would NOT recommend. I have never come across such atrocious service before. I booked this moving company at short notice as I needed approx. half a house moved. It was confirmed on Monday for the Thursday, in the same week, and I actually declined another quote - because these people could move me sooner (I had to vacate by Friday). On the day of the move no one turned up. After texting and leaving msgs, I finally made contact with an admin person who was very apologetic. I was told there would be no movers coming, as he'd gone off to Hamilton and there was no one else available to move me. If I'd only known earlier he was going to break the agreement, I could have made other arrangements. But to cancel my move an hour after they were due to show up? I couldn't believe it and it left me in a very difficult situation. One of my regrets was that I didn't get a written confirmation - it was all verbal. Otherwise I would have pursued this legally to cover my costs. Use them at your own risk and if you do, definitely get a written confirmation - not a verbal one.
