Coolsville Cartel - Hataitai
About Coolsville Cartel
Our Roots
Coolsville Trading Post opened on May 10th, 2015 with the intention of providing more gluten free options for people on the go! Being gluten intolerant myself I was fed up with having very little options of food when I was driving or traveling and didn’t have time to sit in and dine somewhere. I was also very aware of the impact opening a Cafe would have on the environment so I decided to only have biodegradable or compostable containers for food and coffee. Small things like not having sugar packets can make a huge difference in the amount of waste we produce.
I wanted to provide a variety of things on my menu, something for everyone! We have wonderful breakfast wraps with bacon & kranskys and also more than half the menu is vegetarian. I always make sure to have a few vegan options as well and we definitely take care of the gluten free people! We are very tiny and classified as a Takeaways so we only have cabinet food. I pride myself on making my food look as beautiful as it tastes!
Our Coffee comes from our friends in Auckland, where I lived for 5yrs. Atomic roastery was beside a Restaurant that I ran for 3yrs so I quickly became friends with a lot of the staff there. So when it was time to make the move to Wellington I asked them if they would be my coffee supplier. 6yrs later we have everyone in Hataitai hooked on their Supremo blend.
The Cafe also has a small section of grocery items where you can find homemade Coolsville Jams & relishes, locally made salsa, hot sauce, crackers, and more! And don’t forget to grab one of our super popular take and bake freezer meals.
We now have a second location in Hataitai at 35 Waitoa Road that is our prep kitchen for the Cafe. We provide catering for all groups and events and frequently provide food for our community rugby club.

β β β β β Love this place. While the coffee is not my favorite the place is really beautiful and they have a awesome selections of little gifts you can get too if needed. Only one small table outside but beautiful storefront seating!

β β β β β Most impressive little smart flush toilet I met here:). The water runs into the little sink to the water tank, wash your hands first, then the water goes to flush TL. Perfect!

β β β β β Owners are cool. I saw a dog outside today.
The first time I came, the barista said I looked like Harry Potter and put a lightning bolt on my latte. 10/10. I then promptly left my wallet in the bathroom and they were super chill about holding it until I got back.

β β β β β A real surprise. Caught out with pub not yet open we caught Coolsville just as it was closing. Great effort from the counter though. Still willing to do two Americanos and warm up both a Reuben sandwich and a wonderfully layered frittata.
We are at the table outside. The Reuben was the full fig. Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, onions and corned beef in generous profusion. Like holding a three course meal in your hand. Excellent value from a place that's a nice cross between an eaterie and a welcoming community centre.
