Isolated and dry river, this campsite was well off the beaten track and corrugated roads; we used four wheel drive for most of the road leading up to it. There were only a small number of people here, and a lot more seemed to be leaving (like us), as leaving your site here for any day-trips would be foolish, it’s totally unsafe and not well enough frequented to feel ok. Best to avoid unless you’re ok to just drive there and check it out for yourself, even have a small lunch stop there, but that’s about all.

Small but peaceful and cozy place. Got a quick 15 mins walking loop nearby with river. Toilet needs some attention tho

Nice quite camp, suited for large vehicles only if your first (or so) in. Narrow road in, currently thrashed by vacant eyed truck-drivers believing its a one-way road - their way! This is due to the quarry and the SH 1 rebuild. If they more often used traffic control (who knew more about why they were their) this road would be a lot safer.

Road in gravel. Take your time. Other people use this road. Narrow,. 4 km. Limited space with a Doc type long drop toilet. This was acceptable. No water. There is a river close by. I carry a filter that make it useable. Not enough room for large motor homes or caravans. Great for vans and tents.

Good campsite with toilet not heaps of space maybe enough for 6 - 10 campers evenly spaced. Few picnic tables. Didn’t see any running water here. $8 a night per adult

It was fine, just a small parking lot with a long drop and some hand sanitizer as the "facilities", but the location was beautiful with a minute or two walk down to the river

This small doc site is 20mins north of Kaikoura City center. The drive is amazing with great views of the rangers. It is near a river and has a long drop. There is a small fee to help with the up keep ($8 per adult). Would stay here again.

Puhi Puhi DoC camp. Quiet spot 6kms up a valley from the main road north of Kaikoura. Short bush walk but easy access to the joining of the Clinton and Puhi Puhi rivers.
