★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First time travelling on my own! such a good spot by the park and I found it nice walking to botanic gardens and the city centre. Nice and clean and everything I needed was available. Even before I arrived staff were fantastic, answering all my questions and ensuring my stay was comfortable and safe. Such a nice first couple of nights for a solo traveller! Might be back in mid August! Thank you so much to the lovely staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The location of this backpackers is perfect. It is right next to Hagley park, busing and a short walk to the center of town. It is an older building. Heaters that you can control in each room, however the kitchen, halls and bathrooms are not heated and are chilly in the winter. The kitchen is well stocked with things you will need including spices and plenty of space to prepare your food and sit down and eat. I didn't have a problem with noise the entire time I was there. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and willing to help you in any way they can.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Helpful, friendly and informative Staff 5 stars. Well organized. Internet was not so strong in remote areas and we had to sign in a lot. Our room and shared bathrooms were clean. Showers hot. Our twin room was big and had a closet, the double room was smaller with no closet. Close to downtown and lovely Hagley Park. Honestly I want a 4 1/2 stars because the internet was difficult but otherwise 5 stars. Photos of park

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely place which will make you feel welcome. Very convenient location as it's close to the airport bus, close to the magnificent botanical garden and 15min walk from the city center and the info center.
Beds are comfy, though it gets a little cold at night. Shower and toilet are clean. Kitchen is nice but could use a little more fridge space.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great hostel. Very friendly, good atmosphere but quiet at the same time. Not far from city centre. 2 min from botanical garden. Great if you have just arrived in NZ, they will let you use their address as New Zealand address if you need to open a bank account. Just need to ask when checking in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This hostel is in a great location, good free wifi and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double room which was clean and the bed was very comfy. Heated blanket was also a nice addition! Bathrooms also clean and tidy - good showers too. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A really cool place to stay! Ended up spending our last 2 weeks of our NZ trip here, much due to friendly staff but also super nice rooms with comfy beds. Free unlimited WiFi. Nice kitchen with all necessary utensils. Superb location!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Dorset House was by far the best hostel of the three I've been to in Christchurch.
Our twin room was very large and equipped with everything we could wish for: Heating blankets, heater, two pillows each, bedside table+lamp, towels and even a flat screen TV.
There were conveniently located bathrooms which were clean and modern and had a nice shower (although it was a bit difficult adjusting it to right temperature).
The hostel has a spacious and well equipped kitchen with plenty of fridge space, acceptable storage space for other groceries and enough stovetops and an oven. We also enjoyed the lounge with a billiard table, TV, plenty of seating and the really friendly and accommodating staff!
All in all a great hostel for short and long-term stays with amazing rooms which are offered at a really competitive price, especially when you book at weekly rates. Highly recommended, I will definitely stay again if I return (:
