A helicopter landing and glacier walk was what we were waiting for on our holiday. It was a great experience. Other international tourists who joined us on the day and our guide Matt were fantastic. While on the glacier we witnessed rockfall some of us were shaken but we felt safe. A couple if us took a dip in the freezing water while a group of girls from Korea shared Rose wine with others and we had a jolly good time. We thought that we should have booked the more difficult walk on Ty glacier.

Wonderful experience! Just the two of us and we were able to sit up front with the pilot. The flight and time on the glacier was amazing. It was much better going from Fox Glacier rather than from Franz Joseph as it is a much smaller operation. We saw only ones other helicopter which was quite the contrast from the next day when we walked up from Franz Joseph. We walked under the flight path and watch helicopters fly over every minute or so all day! Our pilot was great with over 10 years of experience flying and made the trip fun. My wife who was terrified of flying on the small helicopter relaxed after two minutes and had a great time.

The Heli Hike was unreal! One of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Stretch was a great guide and navigated us all around the glacier expertly. We got to visit a number of caves. Spent almost 3 hours on the ice. Make sure to take your own beanie and gloves as it is quite cool on the glacier regardless of how the temperature is down in the township.

Our guide Sky was excellent. We were well provided for - got waterproof jackets, socks, boots, crampons and gloves. Was well taken care off. Very cool - must do.

The HeliHike was an amazing unbeatable experience, plus you get a domestic travel discount. Being on the glacier and crawling under the ice caves felt unreal and the hike felt short even though we were on the ice for hours. We wanted more so we asked them if we could take the helicopter ride to the top before descending for some extra cost and everyone was super accommodating. We went right after the School Holidays ended and booked the first flight in the morning. To our pleasant surprise, we were the only two people on the flight, and the team was doing their promo shoot for Chinese New Year. Everyone, including our guide Lucas, were professional and knowledgeable and Kathy took some beautiful pictures of us and shared them with us. Would highly recommend both experiences. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. (Side note: It was surprisingly warm during the hike, almost as warm as on the ground. We weren't expecting that.)

We had such a wonderful heli hike experience with these guys! Whilst the lack of tourism hasn't been great for the area, we were blessed as it meant we went on the tour with just the two of us ? We arrived, checked in, watched some informative safety videos, got into our kit and made our way to the heli pad. From there we were taken on a 5 minute helicopter flight into the glacier where our guide/Sherpa, Passang (from Nepal), greeted us. He taught us how to put our crampons on and proceeded to take us on a 3 hour walk around the ice. It was breathtaking and he had no hesitation answering any of our questions. If you're considering which company to go with for your tour, we couldn't recommend this experience highly enough!

*Summary - if you only do one paid activity in NZ, a heli-hike to a glacier is it. However whilst ice time may be up to the advertised 3hrs, you should expect the actual hiking time to be a lot less. *Long story - Friendliness of staff and level of safety is top notch. We were the first of the morning group to arrive onto the ice, then from there it took us another 45 minutes before we got moving (time waiting for second Heli, everyone to put on their crampons and go through safety again). The guide has to spend time cutting the ice to make it easier to walk on (understandable but again eats away into your hike time). The 'hike' itself is easy but your time will be very dependent on other people in the group (some are slow walkers and some will strike 20 different poses for the camera before the whole group can move on). We had 9 in our morning group and a little disheartened to see that the 11.50am slot only had 2 people! Next time I would ask re group size to see if we could change slots (especially given that it is really quiet at the moment.) Or might be worthwhile upgrading to the other hike options if waiting on other people isn't your thing. I did the Franz Josef hike 7 years ago and personally preferred it (felt it was more fun, faster paced) but things are likely to have changed by now. Whether you do Fox or Franz though you will be doing something crazily unique. Spend a few more days in Fox/Franz and book your hike early on because your trip could be cancelled / rescheduled due to bad weather.

I’m speechless. Glacier hiking is the best thing I’ve done in NZ and I live here. If you are hesitant (like me) to spend big money on activities then this is where I’d bite the bullet and DO IT. It is much cooler than sky diving. You spend 2-3 hours on the ice. Passang was a fantastic and relaxed guide.
