★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dined here two nights. First night a group of five. Ordering was fine, and first course arrived reasonably timely as did drinks. Went downhill a bit after that. We were never offered refills on drinks, even water, and had to keep trying to flag someone down. Mains took an hour to arrive, a couple of our group noticed other tables (that had arrived well after us) getting their food.
We ordered the venison, the risotto, the lamb racks and a steak. Risotto was fine. The lamb, steak, and venison were all miles overcooked. The worst being the venison that was dry and a touch bitter. We'd waited long for the food and were hungry so didn't send them back. Interestingly, a couple of us put our meat aside for a while expecting we would get the usual visit from the waiter to see if all was OK - but that never happened.
Some wanted dessert so we waited for plates to clear and dessert menus. Never happened. We gave up waiting (by this stage we'd been there 2 1/2 hours) and got the bill.
Next night was a larger group, so a set menu which is fair enough. Food was OK, nothing inspirational, most at my table commented their dishes weren't seasoned enough. They did serve much quicker. Some noticed the dishes didn't quite match the menu (stuffed chicken breast wasn't stuffed, fruit with handmade ice-cream actually had a sorbet.)
Maybe just caught them on a bad week or short staffed? Wouldn't go out of my way to return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best kept secrets of the new Christchurch dining scene, this restaurant opened in March as part of the ex-Millennium Hotel now dubbed the Distinction Hotel. Beautiful decor with a comfortable atmosphere, the service was spectacular! But most importantly the food was absolutely breathtaking. Generous portion sizes, fresh ingredients, mouthwatering presentation and skillful seasoning and balance of flavours. This is my new favourite restuarant. Will be back for sure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not bad. Ordered the duck breast and lamb rack main. Very tasty duck but lamb a bit lacking - cooked well but a bit insubstantial. Not enough meat and the sauce really lacked depth of flavour or in fact any flavour at all. The Gumption sandwich was just too savoury. Needs more sweetness. The pineapple helped but wasn't enough. I was left searching for sweetness - even sticking the star anise in mouth for relief. The balance was missed there. Great staff though, might try the venison next time.

Friendly, helpful and attentive staff Rowan and Charmaine.
The menu offers plenty of tasty options.
For starters we had the bread board and tomato bisque, everything was very tasty with amazing bread.
The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender. A range of sauces and sides are available with the steak. You can choose 1 sauce and 2 sides.
The mac n cheese side was delicious and I highly recommend!
Locally sourced produce.
Yorkshire pudding was overcooked.
