★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hertz is well known world wide and likewise is reliable here in Dunedin as well, the car provided was not as requested but of the same class, and picking up was easy. The reservations agent was helpful and helped minimise our reservations cost by telling us that reservations are done per twenty four hour basis. Also be sure to give them a go when other car rental agencies are out of cars for rent, though location is further out of town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Some things to think about when hiring from this company regarding disputes about damage.
I hired a car and took Super Cover at $40 per day.
I returned the car with no damage (again I thankfully took photos to prove that).
The morning after returning the car I got an email from the company stating the car has "windscreen damage" to both the passenger and driver side. I emailed them back to ask for more info and got an automated reply someone will be in touch in 10 days.
Tried to connect to the Dunedin desk to understand more and query things but was told this was not possible and to direct any "feedback" to the claims team to dispute.
I eventually connected to the Dunedin team who said not to worry as I have full cover.
I asked to see photos of the damage (proof) and was told this was not possible as things had now been passed to the claims team.
The lady said there was probably a small chip that wasn't visible when I was driving that has since cracked from the heat of the sun (it's 16 degrees today and cloudy). Damage might have been caused overnight. Who knows?
Just a warning to folk out there to make sure you take photos when returning the car so you don't get into a big complicated dispute process where you're passed around call centres staff and centralised email addresses getting nowhere!
Would have been much bigger headache if I'd been liable for the costs of fixing things (hadn't taken out the super cover insurance option). So maybe add this on if you go with Hertz! Or maybe choose another company altogether?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I often use them for work organised rental cars. Pick-ups and drop-offs have never been an issue. So, their systems seem to work great. Cars are always clean and in great shape with full fuel tanks and low kms on the odometer. Cars have always been modern / new as well. When you complete the pick-up, they send you an automated email from Hertz as well, containing photos and rental booking details. Roadside / breakdown assistance is provided as well. Really, has been a peace of mind and efficient experience, everytime so far.
