β β β β β Had a blast here. The hosts were lovely. The food was awesome and music and banter late into the night was a perfect end to the day. I went with Stray travels

β β β β β This is a genuinely incredible stop on the Stray route with a very real and honest view into the local area and Maori culture, both past and present.
Ena, our Maori guide was full of energy and knowledge, it's hard to believe she is only 18. What was also quite special with her was how she encouraged us to ask the taboo questions, the things you want to know but don't want to ask.
It's fantastic that tourism can give so much to a struggling area, and provide opportunities for people like Ena to share their passion and knowledge.

β β β β β A stay I would rather forget. Got there in the afternoon and no one there to book me in. Waited. Still no one so I went to work.
Apparently there is a two hour wait time for this. Funny, they didn't even know what time I pulled up, so how could they know how long I was there. Got back from work and told which room. Next day apparently wrong room. Yes, shifted...at 11.30am. I was there for two hours before they noticed! As I took a trailer, they showed me a place to park my car out of the road. Get back from work...park gone. OK, make my own park...oh wait, i cant even turn around, the bus is in the road! I could go on, but it was definitely a forgetable stay. Pity they treat there own race like dirt...

β β β β β Kia Ora whanau,
Nga Mihi nui for a fantastic night away. We came to celebrate my Aunty's 60th and what a relaxing, stress free time due to the amazing staff at Kohutapu. We had the hangi and dessert feast and wow! The food was amazing, cooked to perfection, plentiful and good quality. The rooms were perfect for our needs, I had a bunk room and my parents a self contained cabin. Both were very clean, had comfortable beds and located close to the public facilities. The property is lake front and had a beautiful sunset. The kids loved playing volleyball and with the other sports equipment. The bar/ dining are had amazing views and was super comfortable. I am excited to come back again once the self-contained house is completed, the fire pit and outdoor baths looked exquisite. The staff at Kohutapu truly felt like whanau by the end of our trip and went above and beyond to make sure we were well fed, well watered and were not wanting for anything.
Arohanui, Victoria.

β β β β β An awesome team in an awesome setting with Lodges nestled in beautiful NZ Bush and a view to the stunning lake. Ask for a guided forest walk and get a local's perspective of Mother Forest and the abundance she has to offer. Our guide, Heme, made the tour factually fascinating, full of fun facts and delivered in a very soulful way.. This was his way of life and his stomping ground since birth; we were honoured to be given a tour of his home and learn his history. Thank you Heme, I came away a better person.
Thanks of course too, to the team at the lodge for their friendly local welcome!..give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

β β β β β Stayed here for 4.5 days with my wife and three teenagers. We had to hustle to find toilet paper each day as they arenβt replaced and our hosts were not always available and we felt a bit shamed to look in all the Cupboqrds in the other buildings. The shower had very low water pressure but my kids found a place to shower in a communal shower room which was very good. The cabin was warm and beds were warm. Sky tv access was great. Wifi was adequate. Kitchen was sufficient. And the area is very safe. The lamps on desks were entertaining for us as they had no PowerPoints unless we moved them all to where the tv was Plugged in. The pet dogs and cat demanded food and attention every time we came back to our cabin, which was cute, then eventually annoying lol. Overall really wanted to give a higher rating as our hostess was a lovely lady, but for the cost it was not possible to match with a high rating. Very proud of this enterprise and the good work they do for the local MΔori community in terms of training youth and so forth, and would probably use this place again as thereβs nowhere else suitable in the area. But we would bring our own toilet paper, some pet food and separate the kids so they can be noisey away from us lol. Heoi ano.
