So calm, lots of natural stones and crystals to find around the place! I pulled over for a sleep one night when driving late and felt very safe to have a nap! And everyone is full of happiness when around the lake

Situated in the central North island, lake Taupo covers an area of over 600 square kilometers and serves as the origin of the Waikato River. Swimming is possible for the brave with water temperatures dropping from to 10c in winter and up to 20c in summer. Still pretty cold.

It was really beautiful and I could stare at it all day. The view is best in the summer and the temperature of the water is also good. This is a huge lake, so you can find places to be alone or to be with the crowd playing and bathing. In the Taupo City you will find many people enjoying and if you go towards Tongariro you will find camping sites and places to chill.

Beautiful scenery, to top it all you'll see some wildlife like ducks, Swann and goose by the lake too. Just of state highway 1. Good to take a break if you've been driving for long.

Biggest lake in NZ. A must visit. You can also have a small picnic on banks.

Taupo is a tourist must do. It served as a road trip pitstop several times over the years. On a bright sunny day, you could picnic here with no qualms. And possibly squeeze in a swim. Avoid the city bustle and try skirting the lake for peaceful views.

Beautiful place to park you vehicle and have a snack or lunch by the lake. There are plenty of places so finding one along the way will never be an issue at all. Just clean up after yourselves. There are plum trees as well along the way. Truly a great experience.
