β β β β β I have had the pleasure of attending this camp 3 times now, and everytime I throughly enjoy myself. The activities are fun and challenging for the kids, and even the adults can enjoy some of them. The food is fantastic, not once have I thought I wouldn't be keen having that again. The staff are fabulous, friendly, and make your stay there a wonderful experience. In total I have spent 5 nights there. It's great seeing kids interacting with animals they have very seen before let alone touched or feed. All kids should get this opportunity.

β β β β β I had my 10 yr old children at Lakewood last week on a school camp and they all had a blast, but unfortunately 1 of them suffered a βnear missβ on the flying fox, she fell at the end of the run , but had she fallen earlier, potentially would have died.
It is a notifiable incident with Worksafe.
Itβs 9 days since the incident and i donβt believe Lakewood have filed their incident report.
They have not tried to contact me at all.!
They have 2 Flying foxβs side by side, but only have 1 staff member responsible for clipping in 2 children at the top of the run and no staff are involved in the tricky dismount at the bottom. The Flying Fox is approx 100m long travels approx 4m above the ground and over a large pond.
The safety harness system has 2 connections up to the wire, but both straps come to 1 carabiner at the childs harness, thus if they forget to clip you in, you are not connected at all and holding your own bodyweight the whole way down, luckily my 10yr old child only fell at the very end of the run.

β β β β β My son attended a two-day camp recently at Lakewood Lodge. He enjoyed all activities and even though he was among the older kids at 14, there was plenty to do and he enjoyed interacting with other kids as well as the great staff. Our children have gone to Lakewood Lodge at various points in their young lives and we've always been happy that they have been in safe hands enjoying the outdoors, whether it be climbing, kayaking, horse-riding and more. We live in the Waikato so we're used to outdoor life, but what's great about this place is it takes a lot of bookings from Auckland and some of these kids have never really spent time in the country or really done cool stuff in the outdoors. Lakewood Lodge and its great staff give these kids that opportunity to do it in a safe, structured, super fun environment. Highly recommend this place for the kids - and if you want a rural-flavoured break, with as many or little activities as you want lined up as a group of adults, they cover that off too. Great spot!
