Being a Segway guide for Magic Broomstick Segway Tours combines a lot of the things I love – fresh air, chatting to people, Devonport and, of course, actually riding the Segways!
Having only lived in the area for nearly twenty years I’m not really considered a local yet – but, having lived all my life in Auckland, I’m a very proud Aucklander and I love to talk about Auckland and Devonport. I grew up having day trips with my family to North Head, Cheltenham and Mt Victoria and dreamed about living closer. Well the dream came true and my husband and I have raised our 2 sons on this wonderful peninsula that has such a great sense of community and access to so many activities that define Auckland.
Being on a Segway is unique as there aren’t many places that have them. I love it when first time riders hop on, get their first wobbles over with, then take their first tentative ride along the training ground, and then realise that it’s not scary, it really is fun and let’s get going on our tour as they just want to ride!
I never tire of the views going up Mt Victoria – love to hear the “Wow” of the riders behind me; or riding into Balmain Reserve to view Rangitoto and Cheltenham Beach; or when the riders have fun in Mt Cambria wooshing down the slopes – they really get the Segway bug after that.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My niece and I went for a tour with Eridani and had the time of our life. I didn't know what to expect from the tour itself, we were just curious about riding a segway but the tour itself was such a nice surprise. As a local to Auckland, I was surprised by how insightful Eridani was to her neighborhood. She knew every nook and cranny, helping us explored it to it's full extent - even showing us where Lorde grew up.
The Segways are simple to figure out and they do spend a fair amount of time teaching you the basics and etiquette of riding. If you're a little shy of giving this ago because you're scared of making a fool of yourself, it's dead easy. You'll be kicking yourself for not trying this sooner.
This doesn't deserve a 5/5 but a 10/10 - really, truly, deeply.
I'll be bringing my nephew when its his birthday.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My work team and I came here for a team bonding outing and had a great time! Pauline really knew her stuff and showed us how to do neat little tricks too! After going through a little training on how to use the segways, we were treated to a nice trip around Devonport, stopping off at different parks to have some races. You definitely get a good go on these, with plenty of time to get used to them and have some fun. It was a fantastic evening out and would definitely go again soon!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a fantastic time we had our first ever Segway trip. Pauline is a brilliant guide and was very friendly and patient with us novices. Devonport is a beautiful town, well worth the ferry trip out of Auckland! After 'training' on the pier we had a lovely trip around the town taking in Torpedo Bay and Mount Victoria. The view of Rangitoto from Cheltenham Beach was stunning. Thank you Pauline for a brilliant experience!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ As a person who utilizes electric single-person vehicles to get around for business or fun, the segway tour proved to be a delightfully enlightening experience.
A historical outing on a fun little machine that may no longer exist anywhere else in the world, I enjoyed the speed and control of the segway that far outstrips the abilities of todays e-scooters and bikes. And all the while enjoying the tour as you lead us through beautiful sceneries and treasured buildings that could not be had in Auckland.
I do hope I can find the time to enjoy this experience again as I feel there's more to be found around Devonport. Until then!
