★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We just love it up here in Matai bay and the doc camp ground. We went mid February so the weather was pleasant and the camp wasn’t crowded. The bathrooms were clean and cold showers were manageable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A super relaxed little beach with a reasonably priced and kitted out DOC site next to it.
At night you might get to see the ocean light up if the conditions are right with biolumonesent plankton.
If not, during the day the beach is great for snorkeling and catching a wave or two.
I'd stay away from the rocks though. The seagulls have made them their own... If you don't believe me, smell it for yourself

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful place away from all the noise. A great place to relax. Calm beach with clear water. Camping is great with shower and toilet. Just be aware of the seafulls waking you up in the morning if the roster hasn’t already.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went there today to see this supposed stunning beach but was disappointed when we got there as were many other people. Many other cars had to go back. The access to beach was closed saying it will remain closed until Auckland returns to Covid Level. No information online saying beach is closed. Only the campsite on DOC website.
