★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good hike along Mckerrow, mostly in dense forest. There isnt much ascent or descent as most of that will be done on either Whakanui or clay ridge track. It is very exposed to wind up this height - so pack for this. Several lookouts over to CBD and wainiomata en-route to the summit but mostly hiking through mossy forest. Its also muddy along here - good boots recommended! Very very well signed with orange markers - impossible to lose your way!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This track in the Rimutaka Forest Park offers superb views of Wellington, Cook Strait and the Kaikoura Coast and Marlborough. Often muddy after rain: Lovely walk in good weather. Good level of fitness required.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome track, not well maintained and a little tricky at the Rimutaka end but I've done it both ways now and I do suggest starting from Hine Rd in Wainuiomata. It's very neat passing through the different forest types as you ascend and descend and the ridges have amazing windswept trees. Also some of the biggest Rata I've seen between Taranaki and Wellington.
