★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Overpriced for what it is. I had a regular burrito, it had about a teaspoon of rice in there. Ridiculous! The salad stuff was old and stale. The fajita "veges" were 99% onion. The staff was extremely unfriendly, they seemed to have the worst day of their life. Would not recommend this to anyone!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had lunch at about 1 on a Sunday, and it was surprisingly quiet! Mexico, next door seemed to have more patrons, but bang for buck, mexicali is way better. The food here, as always, was phenomenal, good size portions, packed with flavour, service with a smile! Parking in Ponsonby is always annoying, so keep that in mind..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Restaurant competition on Ponsonby Road is fierce so I'm surprised this place has survived considering their poor customer service. Service is cold and unfriendly - no hello or thank you. Bearing in mind the high price, the portion size is relatively small. The chicken tasted bland. This restaurant really needs to raise its gain if it is to survive. Try Mexico next door for a more authentic flavour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and flavours, then i'm not sure if you'll get it here. We had the Supreme Nachos that got loaded with Coleslaw salad. It wickedly overpowered the beef flavour and cheese and corn chips. Fast mexican food without the Mexican flavours

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's very similar to USA, even the dine in baskets, the regular is massive and it's usually good. Sometimes it's better than others depending on the proportions of ingredients. Often too much beans & rice, no where near as much meat as you'd get in usa so one less star:)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food isn't too bad, but the treatment I got from the manager was horrible. He's arrogant and ironic, really poor treatment.
Maybe he was having a bad day but he needs to learn how to deal with the customers, maybe because him the store it's always empty.
Next door in Mexico the food it's better and they are treating the customers properly.
Really disappointed about Mexicali, I never more gonna back there.
By far the worst experience I had in Ponsonby.
Definitely I don't recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went to Mexicali for brunch. Greeted with lovely smiles and hospitality ! The waiter allowed us to create out own Nachos with double meat or pulled pork and mince etc. Such lovely service and delicious tasty food !!
Great value and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !
