I have been to Middlemore Hospital on several occasions both for myself and for close friends. I have no complaints about my stay about 8 years ago with a grumbling Gall Bladder. More recently I was there about 18 months ago with Kidney Stones, that stay was not as good as my previous one. I was in overnight and discharged around midday the following day by a doctor that sent me home with Paracetamol! Ludacris, I was in agony and back again the next day which did go better doctor wise but the food people wouldn't give me any breakfast. On a brighter side, a close friend was there in the Cardio ward during Lockdown and again last year out of Lockdown. He was looked after brilliantly and the staff were exceptionally good.

Went to ED at 2.30 in the afternoon with my wife and we were finally admitted a bed at 1.30 in the morning. We were among many people seeking medical assistance but having to wait for hours. We have no complaints other than appreciation for all staff who are working under pressure being short staffed, underpaid, under-resourced and definitely underappreciated by people who feel the need to be first in line no matter what. My wife had terrible abdominal pains before we were advised to attend ED. Thanks to everyone in the medical arena especially ED for your willingness to learn and provide the best way you know how.

The UPSIDE: Amazing teams from B&A, NICU, and ICU; looking after my partner and my newborn. Forever grateful to our male midwife Alex, for going above and beyond his post looking after my family and myself. The DOWNSIDE: The MATERNITY WARD. We had cold AC blasting with a newborn, short curtains that let a draft through the windows, and a myriad of eye-rolling nurses at our disposal. Also, a not exactly welcoming atmosphere for fathers, due to some frankly, old fashioned policies towards overnight stays. A stark contrast from the other departments we were in.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Came in last night around 11:30pm and explained to the nurse at the little outside area what was happening. She giggled & thought it was bizarre that health line had told me to be seen within 2 hours as she thought my symptoms weren’t that serious. She giggled and told me I should be seen by my GP & if I do decide to wait I’ll be waiting for 6 hours. I left and went to Auckland Hospital (where I knew I would be treated properly but my partner thought Middlemore would be better). I was seen straight away and lucky I did go in! Shame on that nurse at Middlermore Hospital. Very disappointing. Why be a nurse if you can’t even do your job properly!

Shout out to Shannon, nurse in adult short stay in early hours of Friday 13th May 2022 who took extra special care of our father/husband. You are an absolute gem and our family really appreciate everything you did for us. Your caring kind nature made everything so much easier. We were honoured to have you care for Harry. All our love and thanks goes out to you x

Came here last Tuesday evening, the doctors and nurses had it tough as they had 200+ patients to deal with that day they did a excellent job. I wish people could just have a bit more patience waiting to be seen. Stayed there for 2 nights, every nurse who came across me was very lovely and gentle with me. I appreciate every single of you workers who come into work and do there best. I know it’s a bit tough but you guys are awesome people.

Shannon (Nurse) in Emergency Department is excellent. I really appreciate her way of caring that makes me feel so comfortable. I was in severe pain when i went in Emergency Department on 4 January, due to covid no one from my family was allowed to support me. The way she treated me I didn’t feel like i met her first time. All the Staff members including Doctors are very friendly. Thanks to all for supporting and caring me in my hard time. Thanks again?

The staff were friendly. The facilities were ok. The doctors were able to diagnose and cerate a treatment reigime within a day. A lot of time waiting for tests though.
