Nice DOC campsite. It is basic with just toilets and water. River nearby with safe swimming hole for children. It is quiet. Beware there is no cell service.

If you are alive and breathing and a moderatly good driver by the time you reach The Cobb Cottage you will have driven through some of the most stunning scenery in NZ. You are also only half way. The Molesworth Station is the other half and the scenery only gets better. Not for the faint hearted.

I loved this because we drove 180 kms to get to this isolated place. The road is open from Labour day in October to Easter. The Department of Conservation runs it and it may close during the open period with floods or fire risk. Best to ring Doc. November is a good time to visit. The road is gravel and 4 wheel drive is best. The building has a small museum and picnic tables plus a small camp ground with very nice non flush toilets.! Painters find this place inspirational and I have added the paintings in.

Stunning drive in, road in great shape. 1 Ford to go through so you would want a long or low over hang
