About Motorscience

I've known Peter Booth since he appeared on the scene of Porsche Bridgestone Racing I was still participating in in the early nineties.

Peter became quickly highly regarded though amongst fellow racers for his no-nonsense approach, commitment and excellent work.

In the process of a lifestyle change I ended up in the Bay of Islands and, thereby, far removed from PCNZ and racing activities. Of course I kept a Porsche but since this was a pre-impact bumper model I had no real difficulties for many years keeping it humming by myself.

Old car club contacts often keep on lingering and through those I was well aware the reputation and following Peter had built enabled him to establish his own company, motorscience, as an independent Porsche specialist.

On a few occasions over the years I needed some expert opinion on matters Porsche and was grateful for  Peter’s straight-forward advice.

In more recent times, however, I finally became a client proper: Venturing into 2nd hand more modern Porsche machinery soon resulted in the not entirely uncommon disintegration of an IMS bearing in full flight….

In true form Peter uncompromisingly spelled out the options which in this case led to the decision to completely disassemble the engine and appropriately rebuild it. I was impressed with the way the job went, that I was kept informed and given the chance to inspect all my engine bits spread out neatly over meters of workbench and shelving, that the essentials of the job were documented and stored on the computer with relevant images, that the total costs as well as repair time stayed within the estimates and, most importantly, with the way the rejuvenated engine thereafter attempted to make me forget the bill…

During this experience I gained the impression Peter and his team definitely have the contacts, facilities and know-how to successfully tackle the most complex tasks and take great pride in the standard of work they are able to deliver. Just what one would hope for in an independent Porsche specialist where lateral thinking and less factory constraints have the potential to provide greater satisfaction, particularly to the more track-oriented clientele.

I now make a point of always popping in briefly when in Auckland and if it is only to stay in touch. The lads are usually quite busy and don’t even drop the spanner but still happy to exchange a few words on the side. And then there is Maggie, of course, with her natural ability to make people feel welcome… and more often than not, she accentuates that with one of her mean coffees!

First off he was rude and after waiting a month and charged for 5 hours labour was charged full price as he mislead the insurance assessor saying I didn't tell him I would be claiming on the incident.(its a $40,000 car who wouldn't) then according to his partner who was very condescending and rude when told about all the problems they were ment to fix yet failed miserably and did a sloppy job on what was done then couldn't even produce a obd2 diagnostic printout then conveniently for him cleared all the diagnostic history so not recommended at all thought he was a professional apparently just a fraud plenty more to say but I'll leave it there very unhappy customer

It is because of Motorscience that I feel confident to hold on to my 2002 996 indefinitely. I brought my car across from Melbourne when I immigrated in 2012 and have used their services since then. I would be very nervous to hold on to an ageing supercar if Motorscience did not exist in Auckland. I have 100% trust in Peter and the team. They are Porsche specialists and have experienced every type of issue before. Operating for years. Where practical, they will offer to repair rather than replace, and they always warn of larger costs. Good communication, meticulous, passionate. Oh, and they are friendly guys too.

My "insured accident" cost me thousands while leaving me wondering if i'd chosen Peter(doing also my service & wof) or the insurance company had. Peter mentioned that they seemed to have dropped the ball in my case & that was it in terms of any amends at that time. After his wife rang to see how i could be satisfied i was continually condescended to while she admitted further mistakes, by the end of the call i asked never to be contacted again. Peter told the insurance assessor he had no idea I was going through insurance yet it was he himself who suggested it on the day of pickup. 3 small details of work i asked to be included & it was agreed upon, be added to my separate servicing costs were simply not done. Oil pressure gauge needed repair or replacement was ignored under the excuse "I was trying to save u money" yet charged $90 for wof(he'd been over the car twice already for servicing & insurance work)+ $4.50 for the sticker. His assessment/opinion cost me thousands to the insurance companies benefit which I totally dispute (I have photos, witnesses & paperwork showing otherwise to be virtual impossibility). Unfortunately 2 undamaged tyres that still required replacement due to stabilization system were supposedly dumped without any call as 2 my preferred option. In fact I was never communicated with throughout unless I initiated. Those "missing" tyres would have left any dispute clear one way or the other if retained, in fact, I would have wanted them, certainly track racers could have used them for practice sessions if they were not "dumped", strangely, though charging me for every detail i was only billed for removal of 2 tyres rather than 4. Unfortunately since return of my car over a month later(5hrs labour),soon had an air sensor come loose in engine bay(grommet lost) & the fitted wiper blade flick backwards in 1st rainstorm. Fine since my repair. Diagnostics a main concern & requirement were billed for, though wiped with zero information given, why? So what have I actually paid for, no printout could be given, unusual in this day & age. Spare tyre needed to be used but returned laid in compartment lined with huge amount of brake dust & a previously untouched appearing tyre/compartment bay seemed dumped back together without all trim clips refitted. The appearance was that of someone who simply didn't care. This was my dream car, a Porsche 911 I've literally worked my hands to bleeding to buy yet my experience felt to me as if they were dealing with any used Japanese import. Abysmal service, hugely disappointed & financially impacted. Peters failure to note damage to the most costly rear tyre( requiring replacement of both) until the 11th hour caused an amendment to his estimate for which I bore a major expense but barely affected the insurance companies previous costs. My advice, think twice. My naivete has at least educated me & hopefully you because in my opinion details missed may have encouraged an opinion of wear which I strongly dispute & resulted in reduced insurance payout at my expense, less cost to insurance based on an opinion of Peter, where the major expense of the job was the tyres initially missed till near job completion. Work approval given earlier by assessor who stated he'd seen a photo of 1 tyre. Without effort I took photos of the brand new tyres & they can easily look worn in light and angle. A lack of transparency cast large doubts.

I have just recently had my Porsche 997.2turbo serviced at motorscience, & with peter giving it a clean bill of health, with them adding the brake fluid change this time. Servicing with them is a breeze as they also have a gti loan car at your disposal. Recommend you to give them a call with any mechanical issue large or small as there experienced team will see that all will be cared for car & driver.
