β β β β β Unfortunately we would Not recommend NIB, as you can not trust they will actually pay your Pre-Approved Invoices. So even after having a pre approved, you might have to pay out from your pocket extra money, AFTER the operation is done.
What created lots of stress for us. Im now going to cancel our policy with this company as we can NOT trust a company that does business this way.

β β β β β After having endometriosis surgery on the 9th of July 2021, NIB have been nothing but outstanding! No words can express how impressed I was when accomodation, travel and all the costs for hospital being covered. I highly recommend NIB as a health insurance broker.

β β β β β The NIB website has never failed to support me with my medical insurance needs.
To start with the website interface is easy to use which cannot be said for many competitors. There is also a mobile friendly version which provides just as much a good user experience as the computer version
The website contains multititides if information for the vast array of policies, all of which come in an easily downloadsble PDF option.
The website personal login settings also has all of your needs covered from policy documents, requesting claims and contacting help services.
I would recommend NIB for their plans, services and easy to use technology.

β β β β β I would prefer to give Zero stars. Its based on my first and the only experience of getting a pre-approval from NIB. Here I elaborate why:
One extremely important factor for me (and probably many others) to choose a health insurer is/was to be able to not go through pay-then-claim process for medium-to-high cost health services. NIB claims to provide this with the 'Pre-approval' procedure. In theory the process should be easy and hassle-free. You fill a small form, get a pre-approval for your medical treatment and then do not need to worry about the payments at all. In practice, its a gamble, every thing depends on efficient and flawless information flow and timely interactions between insurer and entities involved in the medical treatment.
The process is quite fragile in the sense that, your medical records, referral letters, etc. might not be sufficient for the insurer to come to a conclusion and it might need to gather more info. from entities involved in the treatment .
Anything that blocks this information flow, say your GP is on leave, results in the failure of the whole process. Failure rate increases with the number of factors (usually people) involved in the process.
Based on my experience, NIB's Pre-approval process is neither efficient nor flawless and consists of a re-active (rather than a pro-active) approach in information gathering ( they seem to request for information and then wait infinitely for the response, no followups, deadlines, etc.).
Evidence: NIB declined my Pre-approval application for specialist consultation 20 minutes "after" (not before) my appointment with the specialist. Meaning that they were still spending time to process the "PRE"-approval even after the "appointment" time was over!
To sum up:
NIB's Pre-Approval process is a headache, far from ideal. For many, health problems do not happen on day-to-day basis. they might happen once in many months/years. But when they happens you like to go through the least hassle and get the utmost support from your insurance provider. I did not feel that NIB is able to provide this.
So, my recommendation is: if you do not want to go through the pre-approval gamble, its (probably) better to go with heath insurance options that have their own hospitals to provide medical services, and consequently have direct access to your medical records.
Based on my experience "freedom of choice and flexibility" comes with lots of stress and inconvenience..

β β β β β This is the worst health insurance company we dealt with. Be aware, these guys increase the premium on your next birthday, dramatically. The increase is considerably high and you will not know these details in advance. Their customer service is very poor. When we wanted to cancel our policy, they said we will get a refund but they did not give us. Their call centre staff is incompetent and they don't know what they are talking about. This is my experience in 2020.

β β β β β Actually the worst. My new employer provides NIB, so cancelled my Southern Cross policy. NIB flat out ignore emails and require constant requests for updates. Stuff is missing off my policy, incorrect pricing. I'm begging WTW to consider a different cooperate insurer. It's not even been a month.

β β β β β After a too-long wait for a relatively small pre-approval it gets declined. Several years of paying the premium and get shown no consideration at all. If you are contemplating signing up with this company I strongly suggest you read the fine print. Now I have to decide whether it is worth having at all. Bad form, NIB. Disgusting. *Update January 2022* After this unpleasant experience, the subject of this review, instead of this company attempting to make amends, they decided to put up the monthly premium by around $40 or about 20% plus. I guess they are trying to make me cancel my policy that I have paid in to for several years in good faith. This is an excerpt from an email received from the company after I raised the issue. : "The product you have attached is ... an older product that is not currently on sale". Yet, there it was, on their website for all to see and buy, and but for one word, the product I believed I was paying for. Seriously ? Is this the way you operate ? Be careful. Be very careful. More to follow, I am sure.
