If you're interested in history in New Zealand, it's a good tribute to the railway pioneers in NZ. The guy there had many stories and a wealth of information well worth listening to. It's going to be a sad day if these stories are ever lost. Don't expect anything fancy but there's some cool old equipment to checkout.

Learned a lot about the Tangiwai rail disaster - extremely knowledgeable, informed, interested and interesting staff to explain the history.

Guy who did the talk was very informative , sad to see some of the wreckage from the horrendous train crash of 1953 where many lives were lost but also miraculous survival stories...a must go to if your in the area or stopping on route ?

Ian (and Helen from the art gallery nextdoor) were welcoming and entertaining. It's worth visiting just to talk to Ian and Helen.

This is a smallish museum but holds a lot of interesting items. I was very impressed with the very informative volunteers. It's well worth a look even if your not interested in trains I managed to learn a few things about New Zealands Tangiwhai disaster that I didn't know. This museum is run on donations and they do a wonderful job.
