β β β β β The walk there is a bit boring, most people are on bikes which would be much better. The bridge itself is great to walk across if you enjoy challenging your fear of heights.

β β β β β The walk to the viaduct is 3.5km one way with some great places to stop along the way to have a picnic. Information boards along the walk give you some details about the railway and the decisions to put it there. A great biking track and not a hard walk to do. The viaduct itself is spectacular to walk across and exciting to look down 42m to the floor level. The train goes past at 1.30 so cool to be there for that.

β β β β β Great spot for a day walk for the family. Easy walk to the old bridge with a few small hills and some cool old tunnels. Plenty of wildlife around and plenty to explore. Great piece of preserved history which isnβt overly crowded and costs nothing to visit. Highly recommend.

β β β β β A great walk to do, tales about an 1 - 1 1/2 hours each way. Only one or two small steep parts.
Alot of people use it as a bike track, so expect alot of bikes.

β β β β β Good easy walk with nice views of 2 viaducts on New Zealandβs main trunk line - old and new.
One suggestion:
When you reach the point where the straight path goes inside the tunnel and the right turn goes to viaducts, take the right turn. You cannot exit from the tunnel to the other side.

β β β β β Loved the contrast of riding through the bush, immersed in nature & the greens of the forest, only to be confronted by the historical viaduct, a massive engineering feat of the main trunk line, in a location that appears to be the middle of nowhere - yet on the road to somewhere. Old Coach Road is very cool & cycling across the Hapuawhenua Viaduct was a fun (optional) challenge.
