About Ongaonga Museum

About us

The Ongaonga museum is home to 13 historical buildings that house a variety of historical artefacts, kindly donated by local families and individuals.

The Ongaonga museum is a fantastic place to learn about early Central Hawkes Bay. The museum has a wealth of information from the late 1800s to today about Central Hawkes Bay. Come to explore the old buildings, take a walking tour of the village or read the local records. Enjoy a picnic on the museum grounds or stop and stretch your legs on a long road trip.

Entry to the museum is free, but, the museum relies on the kind donations it receives each year from our visitors and benefactors. Donations are very much appreciated and if you would like to donate, you can do so at the museum or by heading to our donations page.

The Ongaonga Museum welcomes group visits. To find out more head to the group visits page or contact us at [email protected]

Went to the toilets and the place was clean, easy parking. The area itself was great too.No lights in the toilets so don't go at night. There are ramps up to the toilets. Easy access for wheelchair and walker. Museum has access for all and parking on main road.
