β β β β β Probably my favorite place so far in the South Island, back for the 5th time this year.
It's a hidden gem, very quiet and peaceful. One thing to note is the road up to the hostel is quite steep and people (myself included) have had their cars breakdown from the steep incline so be cautious when driving up here! (Still worth it IMO)

β β β β β I was REALLY surprised at how good this campsite was for as little as we paid.
The bathrooms feel a little like Eco bathrooms from the outside, but when you actually go in, they function perfectly, the showers were also absolutely great.
We stayed in a campervan here and we had plenty of space here and it's actually surprisingly quiet at night.
The only major issue with this place is the drive up to it is horrific as its a single lane up a big hill which regularly had people coming down that didn't know how to drive (someone wanted us to reverse down a steep corner in our three person caravan as they couldn't pull up to a gap in the side in their tiny car).
I would say that if you are a confident driver, you should be OK in a big van!

β β β β β Stayed here for 1 night with my wife(November 2018).
The location itself is amazing, I grew in a farm like community so i felt at home right away. my wife though is a city person but also felt the great vibes of the place.
The hosts were very nice and helped us decide where should we best go on hikes (there are just too many!)
The room we took (double bed) was very clean and fairly enough big for our muchilas and our day backpacks. the one thing seemed a bit odd was that all of the rooms (we were in the main building) didn't had locks.
The kitchen was fully equipped 'with everything we needed for making a gourmet meal, and the dining room was nice and cozy, same with the living room that had fireplace and many magazines and books if you just wanted to stay at the hostel and read.
You can take many hikes routes right from the hostel and see great views even in less then 10 minutes walk.
DON'T FORGET - the hostel area is great for Stargazing!!! don't miss it!

β β β β β We had a wonderful stay in one of the huts. Felt amazingly private. Shared bathroom facilities can get quite busy as the huts share it with the campground. Shared facilities were clean, hot water was always available. Hut was clean and had enough space for two people, interiors are quite dated (but hey! It's a hut!). Would definitely come back.

β β β β β Wow!! I've been here three times now and each time it seems more wonderful. Staff are super helpful and friendly, the facilities are tidy and well equipped. The thing that just marvels me each time is the location!! Just absolutely stunning location and gorgeous accommodation. Could not recommend this spot any higher!

β β β β β I stayed over the Xmas break 2020 and it is a beautiful stop to stay. It was 7 degrees overnight and in the tent that was a little challenging. The amenites were very rustic but I had no problems. The reception for phone/Wifi is very very limited and there is only one place to be able to charge your gadgets.
I also went on the dolphin swimming trip and it was well worth it. For the price is was good value and we had a really good time.

β β β β β Stayed in the van park camping. $60 for 4 of us, walk up a bit for amazing views! There's a free walks around which we didn't have time to do but look great.Pretty good set up, hut with 2 fridges, a couple of charging stations for devices, cooking facilities, showers and a couple of toilets- another couple would be great for the amount of folk. The reception area is super dink. Recommend taking a walk around as the location is beautiful plus the wee gardens and area where the huts are is lovely. It's a great place to stay. Drive could be difficult for some vehicles as it's a bit steep.

β β β β β Awesome place! Very quiet and secluded, perfect for a getaway ?. And swimming with the dolphins was amazing! We got to swim with them twice in one trip.
Just be aware that some of the campsites and most of the stargazer huts are a bit of a trek from the car park. So you'll want to pack light if you're staying in those. There are facilities for cooking (and a fridge, microwave etc) close to the car park though, so you won't need to take everything with you anyway.
