Facilities ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Location ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Camp Managers 0️⃣ In the 30+ years we have been camping in NZ (we are kiwis) I have never had such a terrible experience with the camp managers. 10pm sharp we are told like little children to go to bed, no sitting around talking quietly allowed, we were ordered to go to bed. Constantly being told off like little children got beyond a joke! It made it such a stressful environment. We’ve never ever experienced anything like this camping before. Such a shame when it’s a lovely little campground, amazing beach, and good facilities…basic…but nice and clean. I want to go back, but only if there are new managers. Sad to say but it’s the truth.

I rated your campsite a one solely on the basis of how we were treated- amenities were great. While rules are necessary, it is possible to be kind as you enforce them- although our group did not break any of the rules and were still berated. People camp to relax and have a break from busy/stressful lives and unfortunately due to how we were treated it caused us not to be able to fully enjoy our weekend. Based off other reviews, I hope you realise words matter and kindness would go a long way.

This must have been one of the best campgrounds I have been too. Nice staff and very clean facilities. Beautiful beach, good for fishing , snorkeling and bodyboarding. A short drive to whananaki store , were you can find ice , bait, beer and other things that might be good for camping out. I believe they also had takeaways.

Camp itself is lovely, well maintained and amenities are great. Cold showers were perfect and toilets fine but desperately need soap, especially as hygiene is most important in pandemic! Sadly, we wish we could say positive things about the host’s. The permanent camp hosts spoke horribly, treated everyone like they were 2 year olds, constantly made issues out of nothing and were completely unreasonable. DOC need to seriously train their staff pronto on customer service.

Cool beach with surf and diving right on your doorstep. The camp facilities are great. Close to a good dairy with everything you need. Then theres the camp management. We’ve been camping for over 20 years in camp grounds all over NZ and we've never seen anything like it. The lady in charge is angry and obnoxious. She enforces rules like a prison guard and attacks at the drop of a hat. One poor family with three kids were so distressed after a pummelling, they had to pack up and leave. Angry exchanges with responsible campers were common. I did get some great sleep though. There's no talking allowed after 10, so we had heaps of early nights. We’d be keen to come back, but hopefully DOC will read some of these reviews and teach the management how to be managers.

We have just spent 12 fantastic days at this fabulous Otamure Bay campsite. You would be hard pressed to find any where better. Beautiful beach, great swimming, great fishing, lovely walks. The camp ground is spotlessly maintained by Jo and Chris, camp managers. They both went out of their way to make our holiday pleasurable. Nothing was too hard for them to deal with, they are to be congratulated on their ability to maintain at a high standard for all campers, Thankyou so much Jo and Chris we appreciate your tireless effort.

This campsite is in such a beautiful location and the camp managers (Jo & Chris) run it very well. We were made aware of the rules that DOC put in place and it was nice to see them walking around and interacting with the campers. Made us feel safer and knew we were being looked after. Facilities were very clean for what they are. I'd definitely go back and recommend this campground.

We stayed at this glorious campsite in Dec 2020. From the moment we arrived we were in paradise. We arrived in the morning after a long drive and were told we couldn't go in till 2pm, which was okay as we parked our van at the beach and had lunch and a walk. We have since found out from DOC that the 2pm arrival is actually standard DOC procedure - so no blame should be levelled at the managers for upholding the rules. We found Jo and Chris to be really helpful, and the beaches and walks amazing and plan to go back as soon as pos.
