★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great picnic area with tables, bins, lots of grass, good parking (loose stone so not the best for small/thin wheels though).
Right by the playground, tennis courts, PUMP track, Soundshell, public toilets etc etc.
Expect to see quite a lot of bird life incl. grey herrons, ducks (heeaaappss of ducklings for a large part of the warmer part of the year), pukeko and magpies.
Great jump off point for a number of walks of varying distances.
Only drawbacks:
1) the lack of public barbeques -
2) the lack of information about which walks to take (route info, map board, signs)
Adding these would make this a 5-star destination in my book.
