★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Used to be happy with Pointons until I hired a board from them, whose binding had a manufacturing defect that damaged my boot. Staff promised to follow up with the manufacturer in terms of some recompense but never got back to me and did not respond to enquiries. Really annoying. Poor customer service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had the worst snowboard boot fitting experience in this shop. The staff member got me to try on a size to big even though I pointed out that I have a narrow foot and would never fit a size 8. He then convinced me that if my toe was touching the end of the boot it was fine. They were not fine. I had to do the boot up really tight around my calf to get any control over my board. I fell over and twisted my foot in the boot and now I'm injured. To add insult to injury the staff member told me they couldn't return the boot because I had worn them. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I have since had a lovely experience getting fitted for a boot at Torpedo 7 in Rotorua from a well trained and knowledgeable staff member. Don't take the risk people, get fitted properly for your gear!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Arrived at 2.45pm at Pointons to hire gear for the following day at the snow. as per phone call earlier in the week they said no booking needed, just call in. we barely got into the shop when we were greeted by a guy who was incredibly rude to me and my family. Even my children commented how salty he was to us.
He asked how we were planning on getting up the mountain and if we owned a 4wd? We told him we did have a 4wd however we had booked transport.
he then told us the weather was packing in so he couldn't serve us and best come back at 5 and we can take a look at the weather then before we hire.
We felt confused as we had been watching the weather all week before coming to Taupo and the forecast online was looking good.
we left and went to the shop around the block where we were served straight away by their friendly helpful staff. they told us the weather looked good for the following day.
we went up the mountain and had a great time, it was a beautiful sunny day with minimal wind.
I'm not sure what the guys problem was, but it was clear he did not want to hire anything to us.
If this person was my employee I would consider some customer service training.
